I don't really know where to post stuff about TV shows hence my mention of "Will and Grace" over in Wheeler Spotting. Well, here is another one I just watched. It's this show "Sex Education" which I love btw. At the end of season 1 and all in season 2 a young quad appears and I am almost certain he is a real quad, because there is even a trach scar visible. He is young and he does not give me dev triggers or anything but I think it's notable they may actually have a real PWD in the show. There will also be a love triangle I am wondering how they will handle. I just saw a couple of articles that popped up indicating that the character in Sex Education (Isaac, the quad) is actually a pretty big part of the storyline right now. I haven't watched it myself but added it to my list. Since the last mention of it in this thread was pre-Covid, I thought I'd bump it up if anyone is looking for something to watch! I struggle through this entire show but I skipped through to just his parts. episode 4 I think was 😍😍😍 they did a really great job covering some sex stuff very bluntly and pretty hot/sexy.

I had planned to come here today and post about "Sex Education". I've been watching the show from the start and I enjoy it a lot. Yes, in this new season, the disabled character has a bigger part and last night, I watched the episode with the romantic bit between him and one of the main female characters and it was very nicely done. I find him really cute and they did a great job to portray the intimate conversation between the two characters.

That scene was just so beautiful, devness aside (I was just so taken by these two souls together), it was so tender and beautiful. There was a really good article I saw about how this was kind of a threshold moment in disabled representation on a mainstream show - like how often do you see this level of intimacy (done so well) with disabled characters? gal-dem.com/sex-educations-maeve-and-isaac-caravan-canoodle-is-a-disabled-romantic-scene-like-no-other/

I have some movie suggestions that I haven't found on the list These are ones with characters with physical disabilities. I'll put the character name and their disability/mobility aid (unless there's a spolier) Nicholas Nickleby (2002) - Smike - Club foot/limp Baby Driver (2017) - Baby - Deaf/tinnitus Bratz (2007) - Dylan - Deaf The Sisters Brothers (2018) Ankur: The Seedling (1974) - Kishtayya - Deaf and non-verbal The Secret Garden (1993) - Colin - Wheelchair user *This character is a child- I watched this film when I was young Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) - Dr Strangelove - Wheelcahir Pumpkin (2002) - Pumpkin - Wheelcahir Ego (2013) - Sebstain - Blind Dear Wendy (2005) - Huey - Crutches At First Sight (1999) - Virgil - Blind (I have some series and other movies, but not sure if mental disabilities are allowed on this board?) Edit: Just realised all of these movies involve "cripping-up" i.e. able bodied actors playing disabled characters

I finally made it back to A Million Little Things after a break with the story lines driving me crazy. (Kinda spoiler alert) the wheeler guy gets a new PT who is also a wheeler who actually appeared to be one in real life. This led me to IMDB/google and find Michael Patrick Thornton. And then I spiraled watching all sorts of stuff he’s in (private practice, madam secretary, the red line).
He played a major role in the movie The View From Tall. It’s on Amazon (free with imdb tv with ads). I’m still a little uncertain how I feel about the plot but there were several pretty devvy moments.

LOL, I did the exact same thing a couple of months ago. He's also in Away on Netflix. It's kind of a small part, but I still enjoyed watching. It's so great to see a PWD make an actual career of acting, rather than just a couple of minor parts here and there.

I just saw the trailer for an upcoming movie "Gold", I clicked on it because it had Zac Effron's face in the thumbnail because the algorithm knew I'd notice it lol. And in the beginning his character walks with a limp so I got intrigued. Unfortunately it turns into a bit of a horror movie so I'm not sure I'll be watching it even to find out what happened to him (I get scared super easily, I don't think it's classified as horror but he looks very grim by the end of the trailer)
But this led me to doing some googling and it seems that characters with a limp (and maybe in general disabilities to some extent) mostly occur as some weird, half human villains, most of my searches turned up films based on Steven King's books, or the guy from The shining, and that's not something I would enjoy... I might try "the usual suspects", but that is basically it. Even the Netflix series someone recommended, The Alienist, looks really intriguing but is apparently quite gruesome so I'm not sure I'll have the guts to watch it.
I think wheelchairs and maybe sign language have made it into the mainstream movies to some extent, but e.g. limping is probably seen as temporary in modern times, and not sexy... Where are the romantic comedies with limping characters?

I just took a little trip down the YouTube memory lane after seeing the teaser trailer for the new Avatar sequel, and I stumbled across this. Apparently it's the alternative opening to the original film that never made the cut, and man... I'm pretty sure my teenage dev heart would've exploded if I'd seen this in the theaters. I feel like I just stumbled upon some lost dev lore, haha. How'd I ever miss it?
