Dude does 5-6 miles 2 times a week so each to their own ability. He doesn't have that much arm strength because of muscle wasting. He doesn't use his manual chair that much so this exercise is important.

15 miles is NOT a lot... IF you are a legit wheelchair user. I thought this website was a friendly and welcoming place for devs and wannabes. Maybe I was wrong. My need to use a chair might not be based in a physical need but it is real and it is legitimate. I didn't choose to have BIID. 1leg, I don't intend to snark here, but I don't necessarily know how you came by that impression, that this site is "friendly" towards wannabes, it's allowed, some of us permit it, m maybe even like it, certainly not all of us. To me, it's a wrong forum argument, I don't necessarily care that you have BIID, it does bother me that you and other wannabes post on this particular forum. I have no problem with straight male devs but don't want them on this board, either. Also, sorry there 1leg, but I'm going to disagree with your vernacular. Again, not here to judge your personal experience but while your need use a chair might be legitimate, but because it's not, as you say, based in a physical need, it's not REAL. I'm not devaluing that or saying it's not a compelling or as I said, even legitimate need, but it's not real in the objective reality, capital T truth we all share. A lot of you guys seem to inhabit a different version of that reality, which is why I discourage pretenders from posting here. Not to paint with too broad a brush, but the pattern with you guys is pretty clear. The kink, as I understand it, is based on operating in the world as a person with a disability, which you are actually not. That's also the reason the policy of this site on pretenders makes no sense: deceptive accounts will get you banned, but pretenders are welcome...So long as they're honest...to the guys with the kink based on lying. Then we all say to each other "man, this board is full of pretenders..." Anyway, I know, the policy is the policy, love it or leave it, but 1leg, you may find a little more kinship and support in a forum for people with BIID.

I'm Dumb, i didn't even think he was a biid. Biid is totally crazyness and disrespectful. Biid people you just don't understand. You know nothing. I don't want to be rude but this is the real truth. Enjoy your body instead of playing with it.

We didn't have a choice in being wheelers, but you can move freely if you choose. You are buying equipment that some of us would love, but we pay for other stuff like catheters and prescriptions. You are more than welcome here, and lord knows I'm the last one who should be saying who and who is not allowed, but do not expect warm and fuzzy from men who wish they still had what you have and ladies that have been fooled by guys who do what you do. It's just not logical.

And getting back to the original post:
Well a lot depends on the terrain and if you're out for a leisurely ride or competing. I'm a full time wheeler and found handcycling on flat ground a dawdle, but I did a half marathon over hilly terrain and believe me, regular wc user or not, that was hard going.

I love to ride just to get out in the fresh air, plus riding a hand cycle is real close to the same fun and free feeling I had riding a standard bike pre injury. But after a year and a half of riding, it was time to go electric, so I can ride with fast or slow AB friends. The first picture is on the way up to Shasta damn, a 36 mile ride. The second picture is of the home made e-trailer I built for more speed range and distance. Plus I think my old shoulders will last a lot longer with a few watts of help. The lithium battery's are in the ammo boxes, and the motor is on the wheel of the trailer. Glad to see that there are others on here who ride. Short ride or long ride, its all good

Enjoy your body instead of playing with it. Woah. I don't quite understand the hate. I do not comprehend BIID in the slightest, but I know he can't change the fact that he has BIID as much as I can't change the fact that I'm a dev. It is a mental disorder that brings a lot of real hardship and often shame on the sufferer. Anorexia is not disrespectful to those that are hungry, and I don't think BIID should be considered disrespectful towards wheelers. However, I do agree that this board may not be best suited for people with BIID.

I deal with a lot of people with mental health issues at work and if there's one thing I know, they didn't ask for it. How can I be offended by someone else's disability that they didn't ask for and expect others to respond positively to my own? Anyway, I love that quote enzi.
