Looks interesting. Not for purchase... Hmmm- I wonder if I can "loan" it with you via Kindle? Happy to try! I read it. Not very devvy for me at all. Focuses on a 16 year old kid who lost his legs in an accident and how he starts to deal with it and his quest to lose his virginity. No mention of devs at all and was an okay book. I don't read or know enough about DAK to say whether it was accurate, but very little about that other than constantly feeling like he is a "half-man." The book was a bit predictable and had a sad but hopeful ending... kind of reminded me of "The Fault in Our Stars."

Oh my god!!! This is was one of the books that I discovered when I was about 15. I did some work for my dad one summer and as reward he let me order some books on Amazon.com. This was way before the .co.uk site existed. This book and “The Raging Quiet” by Sheryl Jordan were the ones I ordered. It took 3 months for them to arrive to Ireland. I read them over and over the first few weeks. Then it would be every few months. That was in the late 90s. Over the years I’ve read them and re-read them. The Raging Quiet especially. It’s always my go to book when I’m really sick. Ive never found either of them for the kindle. I’d probably die now if I found them. Again, The Raging Quiet especially, as I’ve given hope. If I had time off, I’d love to type them up from the hardbacks I have. Just so I can carry them always. Not available either?? 😭 I have this book in hard copy. I was not a fan of this book. This is younger than I usually read, but that didn't bother me. I found a lot of the characterizations unrealistic, and the ending came so soon and seemed like quite the copout. We see Allison getting some closure from her parents, but we never see Harry come to terms with his father and death of his mother. It seems like it might be going that way, but it never happens. Also, I thought that Harry's accident didn't have the typical repercussions... he didn't seem angry or upset at all. He just seemed like a complete jerk! Also, I found the book to be pretty offensive. Constantly calling Adam, Allison's autistic brother, retarded got on my nerves. It is one thing if the mean jerk kid is calling him retarded, but Allison calls Adam retarded, and so does the psychologist! I realize this was written in 1994, so maybe that was the best terminology back then, but it definitely didn't sit well with me. I was also put out by the way Allison's parents reacted to Adam. They act like he is really a burden, and that just didn't seem very realistic.

I stumbled across another read this week that was recommended to me by a friend. For my blind dev's it's called Just Like Breathing by author Diana Gardin. It's a superb book, but fair warning it's a tearjerker. I just read this yesterday. I don't know that I found it particularly devvy myself...I mostly just cried. I'm glad I read it, the romance parts were sexy and all... I just didn't find the blindness stuff devvy.

Ugh, I was looking forward to a new book with a hot blind guy but anything with a child death in it is a big old nope for me. Even reading the first page in the Amazon preview was too upsetting. I think we were talking about this in the thread about having kids but my tolerance for tragedy has dropped down to almost zero.

I have a 4 year old and I had a hard time getting through it.

I think we were talking about this in the thread about having kids but my tolerance for tragedy has dropped down to almost zero. That's why I said it was a tearjerker for sure. I guess I should have gave fair warning, but I don't like to give spoilers. Typically I'm with you and that kind of stuff is a big oh HELL no for me. I can't even read stories on the internet about things happening to kids. Somehow I was able to get through it. My friend that recommended it to me asked "Did you cry in the first chapter?" I evaluated this later because I felt so horrible for NOT being emotional as a parent and being able to get through it (if that makes sense). I think it was because I was SUPER tired when I read that prologue AND I wasn't emotionally attached to the spouse/kid as characters since it happened so fast. Once I got attached to the heroine and her struggle though there were parts that broke me in this book (but by that time I was invested). Anyhow, sorry if it was upsetting. In the future I'll make sure to give a spoiler alert and then enter several tabs so folks have the choice to read on or not...

Just discovered the Beyond series by Ashley Logan. Beyond Touched I found really devvy and there’s an off shoot book about a wheeler that I’m just starting. It’s all ex military with storylines I found a little unrealistic but still enjoyed x

So it's not exactly a book but I have fallen down a rabbit hole of Daredevil fan fiction, and some of it is super devvy. This one is my favorite so far: archiveofourown.org/works/8141192DD meets the Avengers. You wouldn't know it from the movies but in the comics Hawkeye is deaf. Tons more stories here.
