Just discovered the Beyond series by Ashley Logan. Beyond Touched I found really devvy and there’s an off shoot book about a wheeler that I’m just starting. It’s all ex military with storylines I found a little unrealistic but still enjoyed x Started Jenkins & the naughty nurse based off this recommendation, thanks!! Question...how much is Brad (Jenkins) in the other Beyond books??

Quite a bit in the background of Beyond Heat as this is the period before he reconnects with his former nurse and his friends are supporting him a lot x

So after reading all this fan fiction I finally went looking for some deaf Hawkeye comics. Hawkeye/Clint Barton is the kind of Marvel superhero who has been around since the 1960s and has been killed, resurrected and retconned over and over, and he isn't deaf in all versions so it takes some searching to find the right issues. There is a 4 volume miniseries by Matt Fraction and David Aja that came out around 2012-2015 which is all around really excellent, and in the final issues Clint and his brother Barney are attacked, Clint is deafened and Barney is shot and temporarily in a wheelchair. It's in the collected edition Hawkeye vol. 4: Rio Bravo, or issue #19 if you just want to look up that one part. In this version, Clint had also temporarily lost his hearing as a kid and learned ASL and lipreading. The way Fraction and Aja render his hearing loss, the ASL and lipreading is so thoughtful and innovative. Here's one page as an example. I found it super devvy. If you're into comics and a deaf character, it's a strong recommend.

I know, right? The entire issue just blew me away, especially the art which is fantastic. I was never much of a Hawkeye fan but Aja makes him look so cute. I actually read the first half of this series when it first came out in 2012, but there were big delays before the final issues were published. I can't believe I'm only finding this 3 years later! Better late than never.

I remember loving this so much! I don't think I have read everything, but I know I did read several pages. It's so devvy when he's lipreading, the [now? know?] thing is simply brilliant. Oh, and I read the DD fanfiction, and it was sooooo good! I absolutely loved it. If there are any others you found particularly good, please send me the link, dg. I tried looking for some, but there's waaay too much stuff to weed out (why do people ship Foggy/Matt so much?! I just can't). And now I really want to go back to writing Daredevil fanfiction, like I did in my early teens lol

Haha no, the sign in #1 is "shower." He says, "Take a shower now, maybe? You stink. Change your clothes."

And now I really want to go back to writing Daredevil fanfiction, like I did in my early teens lol Yeay, another fan! It's even harder to find good Hawkeye stories because almost everything tagged "Deaf Clint Barton" is actually about Bucky, and if Clint is in it at all there's like one mention of him having a hearing aid in a 65,000 word story.
There are a ton of stories about Netflix DD meeting the movie Avengers but they don't know he's blind. Here are some of the best ones.
The Avengers think DD is illiterate and want to help. The author said she was frustrated with so many stories is forced to reveal his identity due to an injury, and she wanted to give him more agency in the reveal. It's a good point, I agree!
Another good one by the same author: MM gets lost in Avengers Tower, which is not ADA compliant
Here are some more that I enjoyed:
Lots of people seem to want to write stories about MM and the Avengers just hanging out and being friends, and I'm there for it.
This is a long-running series with many installments.
Another DD-Hawkeye first meeting, but this one really captures the Matt Fraction take on Hawkeye, with lots of details taken from the comics.

I have read and loved all of these stories in the past. Nice to see some other Daredevil fanfiction fans out there. I’m Fanfiction obsessed, so many devy stories out there.

Haha, well none of the ones I linked to are exactly new, they were all written in 2015 when the Netflix Daredevil debuted and the deaf Hawkeye comic came out.
It is really nice to know other devs are enjoying it as well If you have any other favorites please share the links!

So I am still obsessed with the Matt Fraction deaf Hawkeye, but good fan fiction for that character is even harder to find than for Daredevil. There's a ton of MCU crap out there, and even when the authors decide to include deafness most of them don't know how to write about it convincingly. But I have turned up some really good ones, although again they are all a few years old, so maybe you have read them already.
Signs and Souls 4 part series M/M shipping Clint Barton and Phil Coulson from the Agents of SHIELD tv show, mostly porn but kind of sweet
Ex's and Oh's more of the same ship, Barton/Coulson I really am not feeling this pairing but it has some nice moments
what's my age again? Clint listens to loud music, Kate Bishop learns ASL. I love this one so much. It really captures the elliptical humor of the comics. I want to live in this fic forever. I wish it was more than just one chapter.
What the Deaf Man Heard You guys, this one so good I can barely stand it. Set right after the end of the comics, except Barney moves in with his girlfriend Simone and her kids. There's some Avenging, but mostly it's Clint adjusting to being deaf and Barney adjusting to an incomplete SCI. The author is Deaf and uses hearing aids, and it's so realistic and well written, although it tends toward the grim and depressing in some chapters. Also includes Coulson as a CODA, and Clint is dyslexic, doubling down on the "Clint is a hot mess" aspect of the comics. Super, super devvy for me.
In the Long Run The sequel, mostly just Clint and Barney in rehab. Clint goes to see a speech pathologist. My little dev heart just about exploded.

archiveofourown.org/works/9325751/chapters/21133067This is a Steve/Bucky story, its still in progress, and its freaking amazing. Summary here: "After being labeled a permanent threat to society due to the trigger words in his head, Bucky is facing spending the rest of his life in a cell. In a desperate bid for freedom, he comes up with a drastic proposal: he’ll permanently give up his sight and hearing." Obsessed!!

Thank you so much for sharing, I never would have found this on my own. It looks fantastic, I can't wait to read the whole thing!
Here is another Steve/Bucky story, this time Steve is the one who is deafblind, in an AU without superpowers. The author really did a lot of research.

yeah i've read that one too, but the author isnt updating anymore. With the one i've linked, the author updates every Sunday like clockwork. It is just such a great story, I really cannot say that enough. My whole day Sunday is about waiting for the email update to come through. This author has done a lot of research too, the story is just so fantastic. I've been subscribed to it since the week after it started, so that's nearly two years now, and there's probably another year of weekly chapter updates to come!!

Haven't read it yet, but a new book just came out that might be of interest.
It is called "Rolling Home" by Austin Charters.
The author was paralyzed when he was 12 in a hunting accident and he draws on his own experience in writing this book.
It is fiction and young adult. From the summary, it sounds like it could be pretty devvy. I'm traveling next week and plan to read it on the plane. I'll report back but figured I'd share in case anyone was looking for some weekend reading. :-)
