A few months ago I was on a huge techno kick, and was practically breathing Boris Brejcha until I realized, halfway through a song, that every single contemporary techno track uses the exact same clap and hi hat sample. I mean, I get it, there's only so many ways to filter that. But like, could they maybe sample literally any other sharp percussive sound? My boys over in the wild world of industrial are banging on shopping carts with pipes and wrenches. Get with it.
So I cut Boris off halfway through a track and haven't listened to techno since. My phases seem to go in ~6-8 month cycles, so we're just about due for some electronica. Annnnnnd we have arrived.

I was, after all, an 80s baby. Eddie Van Halen plays a mean guitar solo in this tune. Btw, when my parents bought an audio cassette of MJ's Thriller, featuring this track, I was about 1 1/2 years old. Sometimes, when my parents would ask me which song I wanted to hear, I would say, "Beat it, beat it!" Then I would rock out to this song in my walker, with pacifier in mouth, shaking my tiny infant hiney. True story, folks!

IcarusFellOnce totally agree. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is fucking legendary. I haven't listened to it in a long time, definitely revisiting today

As a musical theatre dork/geek/jerk I get worried that the continued focus on golden age musicals on Broadway is something that keeps a lot of people from exploring the art form. I'm a strong believer there's a musical for everybody. Hadestown did such a good job of creating a world through it's music, and that's really what sets MT apart as a storytelling medium -- that you can do that. But the music is also just so good even outside the context of the story, so I think it could be a great gateway drug into MT! Here's the Tiny Desk Concert of some of the music.

Maybe I posted this band before. A couple of years ago I bought the CD “fire in The Valley” by The Wishing Well at a garage sale, not knowing what it is about. One of my best garage sale purchases ever.
