Since I'm a giant hipster, I like to know what people are into. So what are you listening to? If you're not listening to anything right this second, are there any albums you've been addicted to lately? Post 'em.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Wisdom This is, in my opinion, the best song on the best shoegaze album ever made and BJM are the best shoegaze band that have ever existed. There's a really great documentary about BJM and their rivalry with The Dandy Warhols that I highly recommend called Dig! Anton Newcombe, the brains behind BJM, is a tormented genius that has created some incredibly beautiful music.
I have been on a sentimental kick lately. So that means Venus (bananarama), Jesse's Girl (Rick Springfield), Freedom (George Michael), Say You'll Be There (Spice Girls), etc......
I love music. Especially live music, I will listen to a lot of live music that I would never buy. I don't need the music to be less than popular, I just like what I like. I don't go to big concerts, they ruin it all by blasting the music. If the musicians need to wear earplugs, that's not the performance for me.
Music is one of those things where people like to think they have unique, eclectic tastes. I would like to think I am not one of those. I happily count a number of Britney Spears songs as all time favorites. And right now I really like Cake by the Ocean, it's a catchy tune and it clearly means sex on the beach......
It's absolute shit. It totally has contributed to the gentrification of Portland, which in turn has had a severely negative effect on everything that makes Portland a really cool place to live. I lived there for 3 years, and in that time, it changed sooooo much.
I know I've mentioned them already, but I'm really digging Oingo Boingo as of late. Their first three albums are arguably their best work, when their sound was more Ska inspired with circus elements and a a nice New Wave gloss.
