It seems that Cali and FL are magnets for wheelers. To me, FL is too hot and Cali is just...out there...but both places seem better equipped for the wheeler life.

(someone told me once that quads don't have to pay property tax in FL. not sure if that's true or not?)

Well Alaska is probably not the best place (also considering that more than 60% of the Alaskan population is male). Wheelers do well in sunny climes with pretty stable year round weather, but I think it's just a matter of what you are looking for. Urban, suburban, rural? California is way expensive as far as I am concerned and Florida is way too humid for my tastes. I am in the New York City suburbs, but planning to move down further south on the east coast within the next 2 years (perhaps the Carolinas, but near to the shore). I cannot stand the snow anymore myself.

I agree, California is overrated! Come to the Midwest! I thought there wouldn't be any wheelers here at all, but I was wrong. CA had a lot more very severly disabled people with power chairs and vents, but here in the Midwest there seem to be more sporty paras. As for where the devos are, we seem to be scattered all over at random. There seem to be a lot in Germany too--have you considered moving overseas? ;D

(someone told me once that quads don't have to pay property tax in FL. not sure if that's true or not?) This is true. I just found out this year. Though I'm not officially a quad, I am affected in all four limbs, so I was able to get this. Looking forward to my first refund!

I thought the "official" definition of quadriplegia including being affected in all four limbs. SCI didn't really matter, you could be a quad as long as all limbs were affected to some degree. Am I wrong?

You are correct Chan. Quads and Tetras are often the same.

Well, there you go then. I'm painfully ignorant on gimp-related issues. I just know I'm not a quad in an SCI or paralyzed sense.

My understanding is that in order to qualify for the disability property tax waiver in Fl, you must also be the sole occupant of the home. No one else at all can live there full time.

FL, so far away, Cal I just dont know. Need mountains and sea. Last winter was my first real snow experiance, not to bad. Used to so look forward to the snow and cold, but a differant game now. The people in AK are the ones that make this place so great. Break down on the side of the road and 99% of the time the first car to come by stops. Very few hitch-hikers because they get rides so fast. I like the country but want to be close to all the cool stuff that a city has to offer. And the 60/40 guys to girls is on a good day. They say about AK guys" the odds are good, but the goods are odd" We say about AK girls" you dont lose your girlfriend, just your turn"

I highly recommend Seattle--mountains, sea, no snow, ok so it rains, but the summers are nice. It's a pretty big city but there is WAY less attitude than in CA. And you can live way out in the country but still be a relatively short drive into the city.
