I'm so happy that there is going to be a vaccine, and from what I read it is quite effective (95%?)! Hopefully they'll fix their priorities everywhere and we can all get this thing soon

Distribution will be a whole other issue but at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

The vaccine is great, but distribution is going to be a whole 'nother monkey circus. I'm nervous about the next couple of months. We need national leadership and coordination, which is something that has been completely absent. My government has issued official recommendations that Thanksgiving celebrations be restricted to your immediate household, and the three coastal states have issued a joint travel advisory. There's still going to be plenty of people who think they're special, of course. The big hospital here is setting up surge tents and.... get ready for this... "temporary morgues [to] provide more space so hospital workers can respectfully handle COVID-19 patients who die." Meanwhile the next state over, deep red and with policies that have favored the economy over containment, is currently the 7th worst state in the US for positive tests. They're not as bad as South Dakota, whose governor used covid relief money to run tourism ads and now, TOTALLY COINCIDENTALLY, South Dakota and surrounding states are completely overwhelmed. North Dakota has the highest death rate in the world. Anyway, Idaho can't handle their covid spike and one of their hospitals recently went on the record saying they're 99% full and considering sending covid patients to hospitals in Seattle and Portland. This is not something we can do without cohesion.

It's going to get worse before it gets better, but this is the first hint that it will indeed get better. Much, much, much needed light at the end of the tunnel.

yep sorry to say, childrend with disabilities or deemed high risk dont get priority either ... it has to change, im sure it will, but the priority list never should have been released without considering the full population not just basing on age. The attitude to children is ... yeah they will catch Covid but generally speaking they will be fine so nothing to worry about we need them at school. Turns out there's a simple explanation for why children aren't on the list. I just read that the vaccine hasn't been tested sufficiently on children yet, so it probably won't be approved for kids for a while.

I wouldn't take the vaccine now, but by the time it gets to be my turn sometime in the Spring, I'll probably take it.

In the uk they started vaccinating yesterday and today it was reported that 2 people had an anaphylactic reaction ! So they’re advising people with serious allergies not to have the vaccine. im not anti vaccination, I just feel less confident in the speed that this has been approved and the fact that regardless of any serious (or even fatal) issues, you cannot sue Pfizer, if they’ve already put this lack of liability in place then I feel even they’re not overtly confident that there won’t be issues. . Pfizer’s history is also making me wary, so I’m not going to be first in the line for this.

by the time we get it - spring or summer - by then alot of people got it already - we can see how that worked out - but in the end its better to get it - in order for this to work - everyone needs to get it - i know many who say same thing - dont trust it - etc, etc, but remember - mumps - polio - measles - etc, 1918 spanish flu - its going to happen again for sure - without vaccines we be way worse off - alot of us say it takes for ever to make a vaccine or cure for something - 10 20 years and more still nothing - now it was done super fast - which is great - times have changed - if we want to make them fast - its all about money - give enough money and they can work on just one thing - get it done - yes we dont know long term safely of course - here in NYC we were having 1000 a night dead - hearing sirens all day and night long - knowing they most likely wont make it - i have 4 girls coming and going here - my workers - and today i woke up sick - could be a cold - flu or worse - nothing we can do about it - beside get tested - i am happy a vaccine is ready to go - sucks that still more people will die - not make it in time to get the vaccine - i check my temps - oxygen levels and take pain meds etc, tea and soup - have to run its course - i do want to get tested this time - just curious to know if i got it or not - can ease your mind at least.

Has anyone looked more closely into the different types of vaccines and has any thoughts (or information) on which one is safer? I've heard people say they'll wait for the new mRNA vaccine, because it's supposedly safer and others say they'll wait for the AstraZeneca with the well-known technology, because we don't know enough about the mRNA. Either way, I'm not super-keen on getting vaccinated with something that was developed in such a rush, but I'm wondering if a few months will really make much of a difference. They've already done short-term trials and I'm not gonna wait years for long-term trials. So I'm not sure if waiting three months longer makes any sense and may end up getting it as soon as possible. And as someonerandom said, I'm really tired of quarantine as well, of staying away from the people I love and always being scared that I might put someone in danger by getting too close...

Next Friday I am off to the spinal unit for a cystoscopy of the bladder. They won’t let me on the ward without a covid test, but you try and get one. You can’t get a test unless you have got symptoms, and I am using a different health authority so they have got to come out Tuesday and give me the test. Has anybody had one on here? Scraping the tonsils doesn’t sound pleasant. With a bit of luck I might get the vaccine one day, a friend of mine had it today and she hasn’t grown another head yet 🤣

A friend of mine just had to spit into a vial. I'm sure it's less accurate than the brain tickle though. Good luck!

Five of those were with the stick in the nose and the first two times also in the mouth. They varied immensely in how uncomfortable they were, so I conclude that it depends a lot on the person administering the test. But one way or another it's short and not horrible. Good luck!

I had my first test, a rapid test up the nose on Friday, cuz someone in my office got COVID, it wasn't too bad, I can handle a brain probe if it only lasts a second or 2. I am negative, so far. The person diagnosed was breaking up a giant chocolate bar to divvy out to coworkers on Wednesday. No thank you, I will skip the plague chocolate, athankyouverymuch. The 2nd person in my office tested positive today or yesterday. I have only been going into my office for an hour a day for an essential meeting, and sitting 8' from everyone else with my n95 on. Those plague-monkeys have not been wearing masks, it was only a matter of time before it hit there. I am in construction, which is "essential", so the owner as of Friday wasn't even planning on shutting the office at all. With person #2 positive, I hope he will at least shut down for a deep cleaning, but he doesn't seem all that concerned, he has antibodies. If they want to see me in person, they can meet me in the parking lot. I have managed to not pass it to my parents thus far, here's hoping I can keep it out of the house a couple of months more until they can be vaccinated.

Slinxter, I have done more isolating than Papillon but still they want me to do the test. I can see really I have no choice, going onto a ward full of spinally injured patients. I have a tendency to talk a lot, basically wake the old gits up! When I first went back it was how long have you been in your chair, is that all!! I can go back now with the 30 year tag, and hopefully get no stick. But last time there was a man next to me, 50 years in a wheelchair. I just said Nurse draw the curtains I’m going to sleep 😂
Pete, 👍
