Slinxter fingers crossed that it all works out well for you! I'm not a hardliner on Covid measures by any stretch, but what you're describing at work is something that really pisses me off too! I've changed job two weeks ago and at this new place, they are also ridiculously relaxed about it, having meetings without masks and even coffee breaks in large-ish groups. And that's despite the fact that we've even been provided with free FFP2/N95 masks by our employer. I just don't understand how they can watch our health care system struggling and our country going from one economically disastrous lockdown to the next and not care enough to do the most simple thing that literally doesn't hurt or cost anything.

You should be over here in England, everything is bloody Brexit at the moment. It’s basically Deal or no Deal, scaremongering, food shortages, farmers been told to grow more vegetables, honestly it’s not the end of the world. Basically as an Englishman, I like tea, cricket and a dollop of jam on my toast. If those things start to go off the shelves, the food things it will be worse than the ravens leaving the Tower of London. 😂 what will one do 🤣

I got a covid test in my nose that made my eyes water and I found it uncomfortable. I also got one from my blood, since they were testing my blood for other stuff anyways, they checked for covid also. I haven’t had covid yet that I am aware of. Thankfully my office is pretty strict about covid procedures. Many people both employees and and clients across the state where I work have been diagnosed with this virus. It’s pretty much entirely come from socializing with family and stuff, not from work. I may have been exposed when some dipshit came to the office coughing with fever (wearing mask), but I sent her home. She later tested positive, but I didn’t.
So far I know two people who died of covid, and a bunch who have been sick or hospitalized. Thankfully no one I was particularly close to got it bad, although they have people close to them so still sucks.

They are not rolling vaccine here until March or April. We get a few cases a day that are in quarantine from returning travellers, and a few weeks ago there was 1 case that got out into the community but didn't spread. In my area there hasn't been a case since April, so things are pretty much normal. We did have restrictions on gathering sizes until a month ago.
I am off to Sydney tomorrow for 3 days, it will be interesting to see if it is normal as well.
Amee, I will be having whichever vax that my friend the Virolgist has.
I can't see Oz opening it's borders to US, UK etc in 2021 without a vaccine passport

Has anyone looked more closely into the different types of vaccines and has any thoughts (or information) on which one is safer? I've heard people say they'll wait for the new mRNA vaccine, because it's supposedly safer and others say they'll wait for the AstraZeneca with the well-known technology, because we don't know enough about the mRNA. Either way, I'm not super-keen on getting vaccinated with something that was developed in such a rush, but I'm wondering if a few months will really make much of a difference. They've already done short-term trials and I'm not gonna wait years for long-term trials. So I'm not sure if waiting three months longer makes any sense and may end up getting it as soon as possible. And as someonerandom said, I'm really tired of quarantine as well, of staying away from the people I love and always being scared that I might put someone in danger by getting too close... I’m no expert but I don’t think RNA vaccines would be any more risky than others. I don’t know why no one has made one before (that I know of). Maybe just because it’s easier, RNA will degrade overnight if you leave it out. There were a few concerning things about the Astrazenaca trial. There was a mistake and a bunch of people got lower doses. And, it turns out, the people with the lower doses were most protected from the virus! And no one knows why. This is a bit of a red flag. It’s been tested on so many people I am sure it is safe to take, but I’m certain if it wasn’t for the pandemic the trial would have to be redone.

We're going to get it. We've had 2 COVID scares in the house which sucked. First was my Dad's heart racing which sent him to the ER and admitted presumed positive (negative, was stress). Second was at my Mom's cardiologist, nurse who did her EKG exposed her (took 4 days to get her test back because of Thanksgiving).
@corey, isn't Spinraza and Risdiplam basically mRNA?

Oof, I am so sorry that you are in this situation, there is still so much we don't know about how it spreads and who is most affected, fingers and toes crossed that you are lucky. I will be sending all the healthy vibes your and your family's way.

Unfortunately not, it is like wildfire at the moment in London. They are vaccinating all the over 80s, care home staff, and for what! I have had the normal flu jab, and tomorrow I have got Nurses coming from the spinal unit to give me a covid test. I don’t know, I think it’s gonna come down to those who can survive it. Darwin‘s laws of natural selection, The strongest survive 😊 that’s me buggered.

There is evidence of a new variant (not for the first time) which is prevalent in London and the south-east of England.
"No evidence that new variant of coronavirus is more dangerous or can defeat a vaccine", says Prof Chris Whitty, the CMO for England.
Keep taking the chill pills Pete - we've got this. 👍

Ha - and Sir Keir Hindsight would do better?
This isn't about politics, it's about the science. Most of the government's scientific advisors are left of centre. It's about the science.

I think the new variant is less dangerous but more contagious. All virus’s mutate, it’s why the flu vaccine is slightly different every year. Just keep taking your current precautions and let’s hope the virus wears itself out.
