Chan... Once you go Mac, you'll never go back. Why is it that all the new stuff for PC's are bad copies of last year mac stuff? Where do you think the whole ''windows'' concept came from? If it wasn't for Mac, PC's would still be using dos.
Chan if your in my bed you can do whatever you want with your feet...lol

Matisse, You have aged yourself...haven't you heard?, masculinity isn't measured by knowing about "female" things, nor by the size of your Johnson.

Macs are great for particularized things like publishing and pro-ish video editing, and for users who just want some basic stuff. But for heavy consumer users, the software support is just not there. I've had a couple of Mac Mini's for a while now, and they work great as music and video players, and in fact they work much better than far more expensive media PCs, it's literally just plug and play.
But on other stuff, I've tried and just can't use the macs. I have to encode my DVDs on my PCs, because the Mac version of the software doesn't work on DVD files. I have to make DVDs of/for my kids on my PCs because the Mac software converts everything to enormous files. I have to use my PC for picture organization and editing because the Mac software doesn't play well with files stored permanently on external HD's.

Windows does blow...that's what Linux or self-programmed OS's are for...but a Mac user wouldn't know anything about that...
Though according to a l33th4xx0r, Vista beat OSX...I geuss beauty is just skin deep...much like an...Apple...

Good luck Chandy. We are plugging for you. Duvet or no duvet. Chan, you make the bed very nicely, I must say.
On that note, how many of you wheelers skirt chores such as garbage removal, bed making, dishwashing etc.? It has always been a concern of mine, because I am an equal opportunity woman. With me, you either share and share alike or you hire a maid to do it for me. I work too damned hard to pull the whole load of household drudgery on my own.
Incidently, my hubby makes the bed. He's not OCD - he just likes the way he does it.

Well I have self-diagnosed OCD, so I have to clean...everything...I couldn't actually share the chores, because someone else would do it wrong...everything must be at ninety degrees, or it's disgusting.

Windows does blow...that's what Linux or self-programmed OS's are for...but a Mac user wouldn't know anything about that... Windows definitely does blow, but the Mac OS and Linux are both descendants of UNIX, which makes them both a much better alternative to anything based on DOS. If I didn't have a Mac then I would be using Ubuntu without a doubt, and Linux is still the best choice for servers. They are pretty, but thats not why I use mac's, the OS, UI, security, maintenance, program integration and 3rd party developer support is just better than windows. Vista has just copied caught up with the features Mac OS X has been using for the last couple years, but Vista still has the basic flaws and security issues that will always haunt windows because of DOS and lack of decent user permissions etc. One of the things that makes Mac's so much better is that the software AND hardwear are made by the same people, so it fits together perfectly and is optimized straight out of the box. It scares people because it looks and feels so much different than using windows, but within a week everything is far more intuitive and simple on a Mac than on a PC. I travel everywhere with my Macbook Pro and my Sony Vaio, but haven't even needed, or wanted, to power up the PC in over 6 months. There's just nothing I have needed it for at all, and its just painful compared to the mac. Macs are great for particularized things like publishing and pro-ish video editing, and for users who just want some basic stuff. But for heavy consumer users, the software support is just not there. I've found the support from Apple pretty astonishing compared to any other manufacturer, and certainly 100 times better than Microsoft. A visit to the Apple support site, call to Apple Support, or trip to a Genius Bar at an Apple Store provides pretty much everything you could ever need. 3rd party apps and support for the Mac are amazing and you should be able to find anything you need if you dont want to use the apps that ship with the machine. What where you using for DVD production? Windows wont recognize external HDD's formatted on a Mac, a windows machine can only read FAT32 file types, and Mac uses HFS Plus (similar to NTFS). But Mac's can read both, so if you have stuff on an external HDD that was saved from a PC the the Mac should be able to read it all fine. iPhoto is for great photo organization and basic editing, Aperture is better but probably a bit expensive for just home use.

This is me, too, except my cleaning lady logs about 20 hours a week cleaning and doing random chores like laundry, dry cleaning management, getting me socks (I destroy socks)...

I was using the default Apple dvd software, i-whatever. I called support and they confirmed that it needed to re-code my files into the high resolution files. Too much trouble to just slap a couple of sesame streets on a dvd. I do use external HDs to store the movies that I play on the mini.
Windows definitely has its issues but Mac has the opposite issues, and isn't a balanced solution. Mac is much better than PC for some things, but it downright sucks for some things. Maybe linux will end up filling the gap, but it needs a whole lot more software support.
Mac laptops are too heavy for me. I want under 4lbs, are there even any macs under 5lbs? At least they are starting to come out with some black ones. What Vaio are you using? Sony is tops at making full featured, lightweight laptops with outstanding battery life.

I had the ultra portable 11inch TX Vaio laptop, which was pretty awesome because it was so small, I could just put it in the back of my chair, easily use it on planes etc. but in the end it just wasnt powerful enough to handle the apps I was using so I upgraded to the 13inch SZ model, which is what I have now.
Sony makes great hardwear, then goes and ruins it all by filling it up with their own really crappy and useless software just for the sake of it. I always do a fresh install on their machines to get rid of it all, which is annoying. The batteries are good, to start with, but I've had to replace the battery in each Vaio because they just downgrade so quickly. Plus if you think apple has bad support then Sony would make you sick, there is literally nothing at all, but it will take weeks of phone calls and such to get that far.
The current Macbooks are 5lbs at the moment, but its fairly probable that at some point within the year apple will bring out an ultra portable laptop themselves to complete their line-up, although rumour has it that they may not have a dvd or cd drive so they can be ultra thin and lightweight. Personally I think thats a stupid idea and wont happen, a laptop without an internal combo drive is pretty lame.
