yes Marine... you´re totally right if we were talking about this century... But, talking about myself... I´m 41 right now... when I was a teenager... it was 25 years ago... well, at leas in Argentina, there was no internet!! LOL... (not in every home)... And like I said before... dissabled sports or clubs or whatever... where not easy to find! Fortunatelly for the young devs... today that´s more much easier!!

I don't know what your relationship situation is right now, but if you are single there is almost always someone who falls into that age range or even older. I don't know what you would have done 25 years ago either, I'm guessing it would have taken even more work and the use of other resources to find out about such things.

If some wheelers believe that some devos are purely in it for the fantasy what's wrong with that? I think the question is more if they WANT to find a disabled partner or if they are happy living their fantasies without trying to get in serious contact... Maybe a good fantasy is better than a bad reality...? Ding ding ding! Give that man a prize! if that's what he believed, then so be it. Why get into a tizzy? Now if this ment, "Gee! If there are no devs around who want me they must only prefer wheelers in their fantasies Then yeah.... that's retarded, But I don't think that's what is was at all. Now I realize he's been in hot water before and if that;s they way he presented himself in PMs/posts fine. But from sorely going by this thread I just don't see what the big deal is. Farewell Cincy!

I did but i had no feedback on statistics. It seems opened more than an year ago. Wheelie, what do you think about opening a new internal pool on this topic? Did you read the intro? The thread was started yesterday and location is open. I'm thinking of getting input from everybody willing to go to said party regardless of where it is. Look at the survey question and answers and hopefully it will make more sense. It could be in any city in the world at this point. I plan on keeping the thread up to date. As I just started the survey yesterday, there isn't a lot of data but the results are on that thread if you want to see them. An internal poll seems good but then the guests won't be able to fill it out... I don't think anyway. One guest, unregistered on the site has already filled it out.

I have a long term relationship for the last 16 years with an AB guy who fathered my daughter and whom I love. I found PD 4 years ago and it brought to me a lot of answered about what I am and what to be a devotee is. But... no matter how devotee I am... I still love my partner so, it´s not a problem for me anymore to find a wheeler because I´m not looking for.

Wheeli, it was just to say that I prefer to see data evolving like in the internal pool (but it is clearly just me). It is a really a good initiative so, thanks for that and please go on. I will wait for your updates I'm very curious about guests opinion. Does really exist someone who doesn't want to join here but wants to participate to a party IRL? As a declaration of intent, as you said I would be going to party and travel not to hook up. Almost everywhere, I think.

Back to the topic, the easiest way to find wheelers or what disability you are attracted too, I would look in the places where they are going to be in large numbers. The best place I can think of is adaptive sporting events (mainly because they are happening on a daily basis somewhere). This can be at any level, from local events to paralympic level events. At almost all of these events volunteers are needed to either assist the participants directly or indirectly. Some events cater to specific injuries or disabilities, and others offer a wide range of disabilities. I once volunteered at a wheelchair basketball cup (as an interpreter) through my university (my classmates were around). It was fun, and some of the volunteers did hook up with some of the players (I was impressed as to how much flirting was going on in there). Anyway, long story short, I'm mostly scared of "coming out" in those places. When you search through the web for people with disabilities, it's quite easy to say upfront that you're a dev, and if they're not interested or they hate them you've lost a day tops. When you meet somebody in real life you don't know what they think of devs, many have very strange ideas (like a guy a friend of mine dated) and I don't want to lie/hide either. So I avoid those situations.

I'm talking about a party with a bunch of people from the city in which it is to be held in attendance as well as x number of people who heard about it from this board. And the surveys will also be anonymous where I will gather the information as to where and when it will be.

To be honest some people may not know what it is, some may already have a positive or negative reaction towards devs. I'm trying to think if I were a dev how I would approach the situation. I think I wouldn't mention it right then in person, but if you connect with someone, get their phone number and early on in the conversation I'd bring it up. Then go from there.

i echo enid's sentiments. i've volunteered at events, almost always alone, and i always feel like i have a flashing neon dev sign over my head. i'm reasonably outgoing but in that atmosphere it's difficult to initiate sustainable conversations when you are alone and everyone else seems to know each other.
i still go, but now i really just go to *actually* help out. i get to enjoy the eye candy as a bonus.
also these events are surprisingly uber-rare where i live.

I'm not sure I know exactly what you're talking about by saying you need to invest a lot more before facing rejection. I would think you'd want to invest as little as possible before the chance of facing rejection. I feel bad for devs in the dating sense that you almost always will have to make the first move. I'm not saying wheelers won't ever make a move, but the chances of a wheeler making a move on a dev without them knowing they are a dev is pretty slim. Is facing rejection the biggest fear of coming out to a wheeler?

Don't get your hopes up in terms of the disabled dating site. They are VERY hit and miss with about 90% misses in my opinion.

3% of your countries population is still around 36,000. Granted they do have to fit in your age range, and location can be a workable issue. Then you are going through the same process of anyone else, finding the right person for you. Obviously this is easier said than done. Saddam Hussein killed 1% of his own countries population on a yearly basis, and if that 1% could speak now I don't think they would say that was a small number. Using the internet would be the best way to find these. Key words that I would use would be adaptive sports, or find specific sports like wheelchair basketball, sled hockey, wheelchair racing, adaptive skiing, both snow and water, or look under paralympic sports. I'm sure that is more than enough to get you started. This applies to anyone who would want to participate in a lot of these events too. Most of these events are put on by non-profit organizations that make it free or at very little cost to participate. In most cases equipment is already provided, and if it is something that you do want to get your own equipment there are organizations out there that can help you. I know of one in particular located in the states called Challenged Athletes Foundation that their sole purpose is to provide athletes with equipment, coaches, and even money to travel to locations where events are being held. And this applies to any disability. Granted some sports only cater to certain disabilities. Like I can't play quad rugby, but some who qualifies to play quad rugby won't qualify to play sitting volleyball. I've seen a guy with severe CP who couldn't even hold his own head up water ski. If there is a will, there is a way. If anyone wants anymore specifics I can definitely try to answer any questions. If I don't know the answer I'll do my best to look it up for you. I've also heard of skydiving too. Going to sporting events seems like a perfect and great way to meet people to me. When I was dating a quad, I used to go to his wheelchair basketball games and it was great fun. The trouble is, I can't find them here! I find websites for teams, but then they have no schedule up, the only information on matches is from stuff they did months ago. It's really frustrating. I'm a flirty, friendly, outgoing person. If I could just find the people, I can handle the flirting!
