I was very disappointed in the film for leaving Peeta with his leg. Realism, people! (Aside from, you know, Effie's hair and outfits and all.)

ej, glad to help. I was just thinking I should really just make a list of things I've found over the years. I think I lost some of it myself - which is a pity. So maybe I should start noting it down for posterity

Finding Himself has to be my favorite fanfiction of all time, and I read lots of fanficiton! Both Redemption and Redefining Joy are very good and they both have sequels, though the sequel to Redemption is unfinished and has not been updated in over a year. In general I have found lots of Supernatural fanfiction with disability (turns out fighting monsters is dangerous, who knew). Here are the posts tagged "permanent injury" from two different live journal communities (one for each brother). hoodie-time.livejournal.com/tag/permanent%20injuryohsam.livejournal.com/tag/permanent%20injuryOthers have already mentioned the ones that popped into my head right away, I will try to think of more.

For me, Redemption is way too angst... And Redefining Joy.. well, I liked it! I am trying to remember another one from the Winchester Brothers... it was one that Sam is the paralyzed one at the beginning but the, it is like Dean "jump" to a parallel universe where he is the injury one.... I can´t remember the name of that one!! And Ini.... did you read the sequel of "Finding Himself"?... it is "Dulce et Decorum est" ( www.fanfiction.net/s/7311272/1/DULCE_ET_DECORUM_EST)

I think it was that one. It had been a loooong while since I'd read any of it.

I'm not very up on the world of fanfiction -- or, for that matter, a lot of fannish shows. (Is there Father Ted fanfic out there? I, um, kind of hope not. Jack and Dougal have enough problems.) But I have enjoyed a lot of these stories.
What are some of the best fics out there that I wouldn't have to know the source material to enjoy? And that are maybe more realistic, too, with fewer werewolves and junk...
I'm picky, I know.

I'm at camp and can't really check right now, Val, but I remember a site called Medicine Wheel or something. It should be in my history on my laptop at home.

Ahhh... yes, Ini... you are talking about Minisinoo's site "The Medicine Wheel"; that site is no longer available. Her fics are on LJ and Fanfiction.net (don´t know other place)

Ok... FINALLY finished "Dulce et Decorum est" (Thanks, Val!) And I've been tearing up some of the other fanfic... weird personal request. Does anyone know of any paralysis/dis fanfic of/about characters that Keanu Reeves has played?

Thanks so much for pointing me to "Finding himself" and the sequel. I love both stories and Minisinoo`s version of Cedric and Hermione. Minisinoo`s stories are about the best novels I`ve ever read, fanfiction or not. It is totally worth checking out her other stuff too, especially this one: www.fanfiction.net/s/7586811/1/SPECIAL_the_genesis_of_CyclopsIt`s not about a disabled character, though. You don`t need to like X-Men or even know it. I very much like "Redefining Joy" and the sequels too. The last sequel ("Remembering Joy") still a work in progress but updated regularly. Finding good fanfiction is so hard, but there is some brilliant stuff out there. Apart from the above, most of my favourites are not about disabled characters, though, so I have no other recommendations that fit this thread. The last weeks, Minisinoo`s novels have kept me plenty busy. However, the day on which I need new stuff because I have read everything she has written is coming closer, and I`d love to hear if anyone finds more good stuff, regardless which fandom.
