Yay, fanfiction - absolutely my world! ;D I'm a bit limited as far as fandoms go, though; most you named I don't know at all or by name only. Following some of the links I already knew I tried some fanfics of fandoms unknown to me, but they often don't work so well when you have no idea what's it all about. *g*
Despite the fandom (which was my main fandom for several years), Minisnoo's fanfics didn't do much for me, since I prefer the adult characters (Hermione only if necessary and if an adult, please), never could stand Cedric at all,
and also are not much of a wheeler dev. But since you all like it so much I should certainly give it another try.
Anyway, here are some of my findings and favourites. My fandoms are mostly Harry Potter and the Tolkien books (as in reading and writing fanfic), and are mostly about characters not disabled in canon, and, if possible, the adult characters (Potterverse). Also, I quite like hurt/comfort and hurt/care fics, so most of my favourites will range among these.
For the Potterverse, there is one large site listing
disability in fanfic. The author of the page is no longer into this fandom, so it hasn' been updated for years, and many links don't work any longer, too. Still, it has been a good source for me and is the most thorough list I've ever come upon. The focus is on slash (m/m) since this is the compliation author's preference, but there are other pairings as well.
Then there's the multi-fandom
Archive of Our Own, a not yet so well-known but rising, awesome general archive for fan and original fiction and other fanworks - also perhaps a place for some of you for original fiction? One needs an invitation so far, but I have an account and can try to get some if anybody is interested.
It has a well-working tag system, and the search system functions well most of the times (most things are still in beta version, but I haven't had many problems in the four years I use it now, and generally much less than on other archvies who don't claim to be in beta mode
). I seem to be able to link only to
Browse by Tag: Disability, but go ahead and try the search function with this tag. My general impression so far is that the average fanfic in this archive has a much higher quality than the average fanfic elsewhere, though that certainly also depends on the fandom. I've read a number of really good Sherlock fanfic there.
Back to the Potterverse, there once was a SSHG (Snape/Granger) quiz with the subject
Disabled Snape listing a small number of good stories, some of the best I know within:
Gentleman, alone by femmequixotic is a short but IMHO very good and also quite devvy, erotic story for the wheeler devs. As I'm an amputee dev not really into SCI and wheels I don't know how accurate and beleivable it is, but it felt better than most I read otherwise (romance novels and such) and has good and still IC characterisations, something I really like.
The author has written another, longer story about Snape having something similar to CP, as I understand, but it's not very devvy from my viewpoint:
A prelude to a kiss. I haven't checked out any of her newer stories on this archive (a slash archive), perhaps there might be more.
Josan is an awesome author who writes exceedingly well and has several fics that you might enjoy for the general dealing with the problems of a character, also a few outside the Potterverse. Her stories are very long and have been very satisfying reads for me, with well-done and written character observations and a great degree of realism and research, as far as I can tell. Her stories are mostly slash, but a few het are among them. (It's a bit funny, but I came to reading slash mostly for good dev stories *g*)
To my knowledge, her story account on LJ,
Tales of Josan, lists all of her stories in the easiest-accessible way possible, with the help of the
memory option. This link leads to a listing of the story titles, and following them to overviews of the chapters.
My favourite is the "Man of Property" series, where Snape is the affected character, as well as "Betrayals" and "Once upon a time", and "Aftermath" where a young aduld Ron Weasley is the PWD.
Another good one is
Survivors and the squel,
A good day, by Dyce, both Snape/Granger, and
Accountable, also Snape/Granger, where Draco Malfoy as secondary character is a SBE amputee. He's present enough to make for a nice enough dev reading, but the focus is not on him.
One of my favourite ever Potter fanfiction is
Post Tenebras, Lux by Loten. Also Snape/Granger (again, with an adult Granger), very well-written, deliciously long, and with a nice bit of dev reading. My second large disability kink is walking with a limp/cane and a stiff knee, and this fills that well (minus the cane).
There are more I'll post later.
