Hi, I think this is a great idea and would love to take part. I like the idea of getting time to read the stories first both as the reader so I could give good feedback but also as a writer I would like to get well considered brainstorming. Also I think it would be a great way to work out some kinks in stories eg I have been doing Blue Skies but have hit a problem with it and would love to be helped with some ideas on how to get where I want the story to go. My only hope is that the timing isn't like the book club which is like 2am in the morning for me on a work night. I would be like a zoombie at that time in the morning.

I definitely think doing a live workshop over skype would be best; authors could submit their work in advance, everyone could read it, make their comments, and then when we meet over skype we can go through them.
I think we have to figure out who all is interested and then we can try to work out a time that would work for everyone (or at least for most).

Skype wouldn't necessarily be my first pick, but it's doable. I might prefer a live typed chat -- like a room created in this board's chat session or something.

Yeah, I'd rather do something in a 'live typed chat' setting rather than a video chat. I almost always have a kid in my arms and I feel comfortable TYPING about this stuff much more than saying it aloud when little ears can hear....awkward.

I would not mind in participating skype chat in adding a wheeler perspective. Not certain how much time I have to dedicate but would only take on what I can realistically achieve.

You can use skype for text chat if people would prefer that to voice.

I think we should strike while the iron is hot. I am up for any time.

I am in a live writer's group and also find that to be great. The discussion itself sparks a lot of inspiration. Count me in! In my IRL writer's group we have monthly meetings and a rotating schedule of people submitting so we get three submissions each time. Takes about three hours to discuss them all.

I'm still not sure if and how to continue Simon's Search, partially because I am mentally not ready yet to take on the storyline I had planned out, and partially because I don't really know how/in what form to write. I think I'd be up for a text-chat-workshop at least once. Maybe that would give me new insights in how to to handle things.

I just wanted to say something - have pm'ed Lucretia - it may be easier to have a mix of type and voice chat like we did on the open chat because some may have troubles being able to participate as fully typing and may find it easier to voice contribute due using voice recognition software. Just a thought i would throw into the hat..

Here are my thoughts:
-Do it on Skype with the voice and text like we do book club -Have two or three stories ahead of time that we've read and made notes on (a list somewhere online of who is submitting when) -Have a moderator to decide who goes first and to keep the discussion on track -Have everyone give comments first without the author speaking, then the author later is able to ask questions and explain things and join in.
I'd love to have a workshop group dedicated for dev stories! My IRL group isn't necessarily thrilled when I submit something romancy (it's a group dedicated to literary stories).

Ruth, I think that sounds like a great plan.

I know Skype and Yahoo both support voice and chat simultaneously. Yahoo is problematic. I don't know anything about any other formats. We could do voice and chat both, and those that need the quiet of text chat could wear headphones. It is not ideal for either, but it can work. What other formats have you guys used that support this option? I must admit I would appreciate this as I can speak so much quicker and freer than I do typing. Many of you seem to like my accent in any case! LOL I would definitely like to be involved if at all possible critiquing work from a wheeler points of view as I am fairly busy in my career currently and do not wish to over commit myself. Unfortunately getting time to write a great deal with sense, meaning and passion could take me a while and I do not wish to miss deadlines. I feel I would be very good for you guys if questioned on some of the finer details of life in a chair, if speaking I can be quite descriptive and give you guys an extra perspective from the wheelchair view as your stories evolve Would this work for you guys?

I also like Ruth's suggestion even though I find it pretty difficult to concentrate on simoultaneous voice and text chat. I think this could work if we concentrated on one medium primarily. So for example on skype most of us primarily type, but if spurs wants to pitch in by voice he does. What do you think?
