There was a discussion years ago.. but yes.
From the time I was a kid... Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill has spoken STRONGLY to the dev in me. (I now prefer the Placebo version)
Coldplay's Paradise... mainly because of verses, not the chorus.
Black Gold by Soul Asylum

Sarah Mclachlan's Hold On did for me as a young dev.

Coldplay's Paradise Black Gold by Soul Asylum That's interesting, I've heard Black Gold but I don't see the dev connection. I immediately thought of Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town, an old Kenny Rogers song about a guy who gets paralyzed in the war. I personally like the Killers version, if you're a dev it's a must listen. The Killers-Ruby, Dont take your love to town: Also, Chris Ledoux's Silence on the Line, about a "crippled" rodeo cowboy. You brace girls might like the video... CMV Chris LeDoux Silence On The Line: Speaking of brace, good question

In Black Gold there are the lines... "I don't care about no wheelchair, I got so much left to do with my life"
I stopped at 2:22 in Silence on the Line... I've read that story in a couple of formats and *spoiler alert* the dude usually kills himself when the person he's called says don't bring the dude. Is that what happens? Because I can't take that.
That's also why I never liked the Ruby song. Yes, it's devvy in ways... but I always thought it was just horrible... never could understand why Ruby was going anywhere. lol I heard it most when I was a kid.

Coldplay's Paradise Black Gold by Soul Asylum yes, yes and yes! although the coldplay song always feels a bit more like a taunt to me, para-para-para-dise.... i get frustrated when i hear it. lol where is this place?!? i remember discussing this topic ages ago but it's a great one to revisit! from the top of my head: there was this song waaaay back in the day... "best i can" by queensryche. and this stone temple pilots song ("creep") makes me devvy with the lyrics "i'm half the man i used to be..." i also never understood ruby in that kenny rogers song. it puzzled me as a child! as an adult i've enjoyed the killers version and just feel sorry for ruby that she doesn't know what she's missing.

It's interesting how we seem to fix on different things in those songs. Spoiler alert, he does not kill himself, he moves to Mexico, where he finds himself surrounded by women, muchos pesos, and tropical fruit, much like I imagine our own @looknohands does.

Yes I remember the old thread about this. Where is E when we need him???
The song that makes me think about being a dev most is Someday by Rob Thomas.
The line that gets me is: "Maybe someday we'll live our lives outloud"
The song was released in late 2009 which was right when I was leaving all my friends and was moving across the country to be with my now husband. I wanted to explain to them why I was doing that but hadn't told them yet about being a dev. That line is still pretty powerful for me.

This song reminds me of my devness and all that it encompasses.
"Not really sure how to feel about it. Something in the way you move Makes me feel like I can't live without you. It takes me all the way.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, the reason I hold on Ooh, ooh, ooh, 'cause I need this hole gone Funny you're the broken one but I'm the only one who needed saving."

This one also:
"Why do we Crucify ourselves Every day I crucify myself Nothing I do is good enough for you Crucify myself Every day And my heart is sick of being in chains"

Ed Sheeren "Thinking Out Loud."
I know I take it a bit out of context, but if it comes on and my boyfriend looks at me, I go from zero to ugly cry in no time flat.
"When your legs don't work like they used to before And I can't sweep you off of your feet Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love? Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?"

Nice thread idea!
The first dev song that got me is AWFUL but I was YOUNG and that is the Lionel Ritchie (sp?) song...you know which one...let's not mention it again (HELLO? HeLLOOO??).
This one also does it for me...Snow Patrol "Chasing Cars:"
A little unrealistic (no man is an island) but it capture the "us against the world" vibe that I think encompasses my devness <3
Don't laugh but it makes me tear up. I attended a wedding of a dear dear friend and she walked down the aisle to the acoustic version...we locked eyes and both started bawling. I first introduced this song to her after a 3 hour hike on top of a rock, and we shared earphones OITNB style. Such an emotional song and memory for me.
