Songs From the Big Chair was the first Tears for Fears album that little Myrrh acquired from the used record store next to the pizza parlor that named all their pies after heavy metal albums. It was really their only work that I got into for a long time. When I was a teen and saw Donnie Darko, I was straight obsessed with their song Head Over Heels, cementing my love for the album. The Hurting has since overtaken it as my favorite cd, but it definitely wasn't something I was ready to appreciate when I was just a seething sack of hormones looking at Jake Gyllenhaal's butt. I just came across this hilarious snippet from a 1983 Rolling Stone review of The Hurting: This quote is my new favorite thing. Anyway, these two albums are really just top shelf. Good enough to forgive Roland Orzabal for being a seething emotional mess, and (remarkably) good enough to forgive Curt Smith for his hair choices.

This is a rather dark tune, but probably fitting in these uncertain times.

myrrh I am a huge TFF fan. I too was obsessed with Head over Heels after seeing Donnie Darko (and with the movie itself and angsty emo Jake Gyllenhaal). He is meh to me now, but I do still love Maggie The quote you posted is great lol. I really love The Hurting. I've watched these more times than I can count, but I can never get enough of the Mad World and Pale Shelter music videos This also reminds me of the "literal music videos" that went around the interwebs YEARS ago, where they change the lyrics to describe what is happening in the music video lol. There's one for Head over Heels But my all time favorite "literal music video" by far, is this one...

We are all going crazy with the kids stuck at home. Like the aging hipsters we are, we're listening to Cake and They Might Be Giants on infinite repeat. The kids have been singing this song incessantly.

I guess even 30 years after its formation, the band Tool still rocks.
