I have talked to a few guys who claimed they were devs before they were disabled.
I haven't talked to any who were not eventually proven to be pretenders or to have BIID.
So a huge red flag for me is a PWD who says they were a dev before they were disabled.
I'm sure it could happen, but I haven't experienced it.

Hi devo, i can relate to your feelings about fantasizing about paraplegia and quadriplegia. Right? Is it only when aroused or happens other times as well.. Like for me, It is mostly a way of fantasizing when aroused, but of late I have been having thoughts about it even when I am doing daily routine. Strange. For me it is mostly a thing of fantasizing when aroused. And fantasizing about it is very arousing to me. At times I think about it when not aroused but it is mostly an arousal thing for me.

Hi Devo8586. I deal with the same situation as you. I day dream of being a quad, more like a c4-c5.

I don't think dreaming or fantasizing are in any way connected to BIID.
I spoke at length to a guy with BIID who I connected with here and have come to read about, and understand far more about this condition.
I had never realised what an all-consuming, deep seated psychological need there is to live in a different body. I even think people who identify as wannabes are sometimes doing so on a (rather worrying) whim.
There is some very interesting research into the brain and it's connection to BIID.

I chatted online to a guy who reckoned he was a dev who had become SCI due to a spinal op. The longer the chatting went on the less convinced I became he was for real. R. I've come across the same Robbb. Sometimes I go along with it as I know it's something they enjoy fantasizing about. But after a while it's time to move on so I don't get too involved with the online connection. Has anyone ever met someone with BIID who later regretted they went through with an elective amputation? I haven't. And it seems they seldom have issues with phantom pain or other discomforts that many amputees deal with. It's interesting how the mind and body relate in these things.

The research I have seen suggests that BIID is effectively the opposite wiring in the brain to phantom pain. It is believed that phantom pain is caused because the brain is wired or programmed to believe there should be a limb there and cannot cope with the loss of it. In BIID it is believed the same part of the brain is wired to not have the limb so cannot cope with it's existence. Similarly the ability to move or feel parts of the body in SCI BIID. I find it really fascinating. R.

This is a thing for me. I don't have BIID, but when I get aroused, I like to pretend that I have a disability, like dragging my legs, imagining I'm in a wheelchair, stuff like that. It seems to add to the arousal.

So I guess I'd say I'm 110% dev and 65-70% 'wannabe' or 'pretender' or whatever you want to call it.
I don't like or really identify with either term, even though I most certainly am those things.
I own a quickie manual chair and take long weekend trips every 1-2 years, where I basically become a para for all intensive purposes. I love it, and it's incredibly devvy for me. I'm so nervous and excited in the weeks building up, and my devness gets incredibly intense. I even do lots of push ups and chinups in the months before, which makes everything that much better, the way my arms feel and look etc.

Hey Dani, my so has no idea, zero. I keep my chair in a small rented storage locker and I only do it once a year or even less. I have to say I'm pretty organized with the whole thing. My husband thinks I'm on girls trips. He actually has no idea about my devness or wannabe activities, and I don't think I'd have it any other way at this point.

Ps: Can someone please explain how I actually tag another forum member in a post? Thanks! You use the @ symbol before the members name Some people though have a different sign on name than what's above their avatar. In that case you look up the member's profile and check which name they are registered with In my case just use the @ symbol before my name dani

I had one dream of me became PWD confined on wheelchair. It happened shortly after I watched a movie called Quid Pro Quo. I still remember detail of my dream the feeling when people stared at me on wheelchair. I often have imagination to push the rim of wheelchair by myself when I sit on ordinary chair/office chair and wondering how it feels like sit on wheelchair. It strange because definitely I do not ever want to be a PWD. I have so done that thing with the ordinary chair

I mean i have sometimes thought of the idea since I always had this feeling of wanting to know how everything would be in the shoes of others. But apart from those isolated scenarios I never had much more interest about such topic.
