I've seen a lot of interesting user names while browsing the forums and I'm curious if there's any stories behind them.
Personally, mine comes from a nickname I got in highschool. I always got to leave classes 5 minutes early to make it to my next class, but one year a friend of mine broke his leg so was on crutches and got to leave early with me. Well back in those days I was all 'pedal to the metal' (or is that joystick to the metal?) and went as fast as I could down the hallways. My friend could never keep up so he'd yell "slow down turbo!" … it stuck

Mine is probably a triple meaning. I wear leg braces, so that's the obvious, but then there's also a slight innuendo flavor to the name, and finally, that's what you hear the pilots say before a plane crashes, so I'm a bit of an unmitigated disaster

Slightly off topic, but your description makes me think of the movie "Sully" about the plane landing in the Hudson. If you watch the trailer, there's this scene at the end of the trailer, where the pilot says "Brace for impact!" and then the stewardesses shout "Brace, brace!" repeatedly. It's a terrifying scene if you're scared of flying (like me) As for my handle, there's not much of a story to it, just a nickname.

As for my nickname - Loreley is a nymph or witch in German foklore who sits on top of a rock overlooking the river Rhine, sings a song and combs her golden hair so that the fishermen look up to her, mesmerized, and crash their boats and drown.
I am not quite as dangerous and so far noone has drowned because I sang to them. The name of the actual rock is also "Loreley" and it is a beautiful and very popular spot for a day trip and not too far from where I live.

El Cid... famous Spanish hero that helped expel the moors from their nation... There is a special relationship in the Hispanic culture with Islam... some of my closer friends in college were Muslim... even tried to do a ramadan style fast during lent.. had to allow myself teas, coffees, and juice.. which I got ribbed for... but they respected the try. Read The Alchemist and you'll get a better feel for it. There is something similar with being culturally Hispanic Catholic and American and being Culturally Muslim and American.
That and cid from FFII. First role playing game that I really got into. Engineer that helped keep the airships in the sky...
Icarus... used to be a helicopter pilot... survived a crash when deployed... think that's pretty self explanatory. Lucky that I got to live after having touched the sun.

Someonerandom because I didn’t want my username searchable on other sites. Pretty much like anonymous. When I first joined someone thought I was bragging about how random I am, like I’m so cool because I’m “random” and spontaneous 😂😂

And yeah, that's what I can at least dream a dev would be shouting in bed. Don't deprive me of my dreams

Came about 10 years ago when I was planning to move back to Minnesota...new(in)mn. So unlike a question I received here years ago, it has nothing to do with the annoying postman on Seinfeld. "Helloooo Newman"

My nickname at school was Robbie (a twist on my surname) but was always written as Rob-b. When I started my first job there was already a Robbie so I became Robbie B or Robbb.

My original nickname here (servdw) was in reference to Gossip Girl’s Serena van der Woodsen because a) Gossip Girl is one of my favorite shows ever and b) I always liked the sound of the name van der Woodsen, it even sounds somewhat aristocratic to me. I didn’t want to use it as my username, though, don’t even remember why. My current handle I got from a Justin Timberlake song. I’m quite uncreative, and nicknames are no exception. If I weren’t so worried about anonymity I probably would use my actual name. People think it’s a nickname all the time, anyway.
