The comedy thing would definitely be scarier for me. Good music is good music. If you're doing well, you know it. But humor is so intangible... there's no formula for laughter.

But if you do kill-there's almost nothing like it. It's really gratifying to make a bunch of people laugh.

If I was doing stand-up, it'd be just mocking the crowd. I always wanted to do something like Mystery Science Theater 3000. Remember that show?

hell yeah, i used to love Mystery Science Theater...they comments over the old cheesey movies were hysterical. As a vocalist, i must confess that i was scared to death in the beginning. It's a "painful" fear that can make you throw up, but i didn't, i just put on a facade of confidence. And being a c5c6 quad, i was really unsure i could even pull it off physically. But my REAL confidence grew little by little, and it started with small coffeehouse gigs, which were a grew place to learn, then it was a shitty redneck bar, then a few more small bars, then private parties, then eventually better places, including a nice beach bar and nudist resort. I'm still hooked on the feeling of performing, but you have to deal with a lot of bullshit to get that feeling. Plus, if you play regular gigs, it's fuckin 4 hours, and that KILLED me when i played. I'm trying to put something else together now, but it's not easy coz i'm dealing with a lazy ass guitar player with delusions of grandeur, and has issues with EVERYTHING. I did manage to get him to play The Hard Rock Cafe for a chairity event, but he's just too weird to get anywhere.
Anyway, anybody who does standup has my complete props coz i know that's harder than what i do...but you at least don't have to deal with other idiots to create your craft.

this is going to have to be filed in the unexplainable but true folder...im a very funny dude...always have been and one of my dreams was to be able to do comedy....one thing ive never been is the tiniest bit musical...even my friends and relatives have had much fun at the expense of my so called singing voice....anywayz...my daughter got me to do karaoke back in,,,ohhh,,,2002 or 03....and a very strange thing happened...ppl liked me,,,bought me beerz after i would sing,,,requested certain songs...which really tickled my sense of my own ridiculousness ;D BUT...being a regular at the karaoke bar gave me the opportunity to be funny, too,,,,and after the host heard me spewing several minutes of nonsense to entertain my budz he suggested i do that during the next friday nite show...i did, of course....and i gave them something john stewart-ish in nature and it went ,,,WHEW!,,,right over the audiences head i guess,,,then the host siad,,,"ok,,next time do that burned out hippy character you do"...so i did....same reaction....THIRD try,,,opening the show,,,place is packed,,,,id worked up something that i thought would fit the audience,,,and the host hands me the mike & sez "there's too many kids in the place,,,you have to keep it G-rated...well, there went every punch line,,,,long story shortened but that ended my little foray into comedy,,,and its so freakin ironic,,,,my singin sux but ppl like it,,,,my comedy is what it is ,,,but nobody laffed...
i once heard or read why comedy is so hard,,,,singing or drama can be enjoyed in different degrees,,,but there is no degrees of funny,,,,,it is,,,or it isnt,,,period..

...it's a cold, lonely place up there when they don't laugh!!! You gotta have the right material, right audience and deliver it right...which, to me, is harderc than playing music, but let me tell you, i've had gigs that were ALMOST that bad. i always said i hate playing for white people until they get drunk. The 1st set usually sucked in audience reaction....let em get drunk, and things got a lot better!!

As TPUS says at nearly every gig:
"The more you drink, the better we sound. The more WE drink, the better you look."
