Lol if that made them reconsider voting for Biden, they were never considering it in the first place. But you know that, shadow . It is a nice last-ditch effort to make it look like a tough choice between similarly corrupt candidates though! Way to grab that troll bait by the pussy! Bazinga! Good point if your takeaway from that was support of any other candidate, since I definitely didn’t say they were going to vote for your other corrupt politician. (The difference here would be billions of dollars of money laundering would be actually proven with documents where this does not exist for the other one). Hey! If you ask me, it’s not a tough choice at all but I don’t have say in the matter either way. I am fascinated with American politics at the moment though, I admit. It’s Interesting to see the different reactions on the laptop, depending on who you ask it’s either a game changer, or a fart in the wind. Anyway, don’t mind me, ill crawl back into the shadow so not derail the thread any longer!

Back to the new Borat movie. I'm really curious if his stay with those two far right conspiracy theorists was staged or real. Like they must've known who Borat is. And did he actually quarantine with them? Whatever he did it was freaking hilarious!

I’ve just watched A Star Is Born with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga (netflix) .....it was brilliant and the ending literally broke my heart. I think it made me think about how fleeting life can be and how the more we love, the more we can hurt. I had a really strong emotional response to that, I thought I’d managed to close off the deep sorrow to the loss of someone very special but here I am, lost again just from watching a movie.

Haven't been much on movies lately, but the husband man and I sat down and watched "The Night Before" with Seth Rogan. It was effing hilarious!
It is definitely an underappreciated holiday gem with a really solid cast.
If you need a good holiday comedy (definitely not for kids), give it a shot and tell me your favorite part. (The church scene is my favorite)

I just saw Sound of Metal on Prime Video. It's about a former drug addict and drummer, named Ruben (played by Riz Ahmed), in a metal band who starts to lose his hearing. Things only get worse from there, until his gf checks him into a rehab program for the deaf where Ruben learns to adapt to and eventually accept his new life. I must say that it was quite an emotional movie to watch, but well worth it imho. reason.com/2020/12/18/sound-of-metal-creates-an-entire-world-out-of-sound/

The most recent movie I've seen that's worth discussing is The Social Dilemma. A documentary about social media with interviews of people that worked/work in social media. Basically it says social media is the devil, it sucks us in and never spits us out. It works similarly to how addiction works. And separately it explained how social media and even Google searches end up putting us in our own personal bubbles. Like Facebook will curate your feed based on your political affiliations and what you have already shown you're interested in, and Google will curate your searches depending on where you live. This documentary is pretty scary when you get down to it, we are being controlled on the Internet.
Personally I don't use Facebook anymore but I still use Instagram quite a lot. But I will proceed with caution on the Internet now that I have seen this movie.

If you like twisted Christmas movies you should look into Better Watch Out. It’s kind of in the same category as Hostel, where people get killed in horrible ways but it’s kind of amusing.

I just watched a film on Netflix, Black Water: Abyss, Jesus Christ I nearly jumped out my wheelchair 🤣 I recommend that you don’t watch that in the dark on your own.
Pete, 😂

Has anyone here watched I Claudius? I'm about six episodes in. I really like it (despite the low-budget 70s set)! But Claudius' disability seems super put-on to me. I think there's some speculation that he had CP irl (though it's always hard to diagnose from descriptions in ancient sources). But Derek Jacobi just plays him in a way that seems super fake to me. Also not a CP voice at all, just the stutter of someone who has never heard a real stutter. Anyone else have that impression or am I being too harsh?

I loved I Claudius but I watched it when I was a teenager and didn't find it particularly devvy. Maybe a little but that wasn't the main draw for me. Anyway I revisited the series with the John Hodgman podcast I Podius which is a recap of every episode. It's really funny and also loving. He goes on at length about how fake everything is, especially the sets and the old age makeup, which I never noticed as a kid. But anyway I highly recommend the podcast; it deepened my appreciation of the series exponentially.

Okay, reporting back after listening to the first episode. It's hilarious. That was a great rec. First of all, it's useful just to have a summary of what happened...the Julio-Claudian family tree can get a bit confusing. But also I didn't realize just what a cultural phenomenon that show was. And yeah, not particularly devvy for me either. I just thought he could've done his research a little better. But hey, plenty more to appreciate in the show anyway!

A couple movies that are on my list include David Byrne’s American Utopia, A Life On Our Planet, Run, and WW84.

Recently watched Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Engaging and bittersweet, Chadwick Boseman's last performance was incredible and it's sad that we'll never see him act again.
