Aside from that I'm also taking the time to watch some series and listen to audio dramas, which are on de prize again nowadays. For anyone who would be curious to hear what they are like, I can recommend www.tumanbay.com/ . The acting and sound-design are truly magnificent.
Yes! Tumanbay is great! So happy to find someone else has been listening. It was recorded a few years ago in the UK but only now available as a podcast. You can listen with any podcast app. I just recommended it in the other thread on binge lists. It's a historical drama based on the Mameluk empire, and the Black Death is a major plot point. Seems prescient now. Also in season 3 which is just being released now there is a blind guy as a major character, although he is a villain, too bad.

I really like it a lot . I discovered it when it was first aired in the UK while I was studying there. Now, I wanted to hear the end of season 3 so badly that I wend to the BBC website trying to access it through a VPN ... alas, to no avail ... I just have to wait a little bit more.

Episode 4 of season 3 was just released yesterday. The sound production really is amazing, it's like a movie for your ears. Although I admit I get confused because some of the voice actors sound really similar to me. In particular the young women who voice Manel and Heaven sound the same to me, I couldn't follow the scenes where they are together at all. And Effendi Red, I could never place his voice and whenever he appeared I mistook him for someone else. I listen to a lot of fiction podcasts and have never had that problem with other shows. But it is a complicated story with lots of characters, and I appreciate that the show expects you to pay attention and doesn't over explain things.

Being referred to often as Auntie Social, I pretty used to being on my own. I’ve spent a lot of my life cutting myself off from friends and family. It’s not my best trait, but it seems to be an enduring one. So this self isolation malarkey should come easily to me - but it doesn’t for some reason.
I’m not having the main symptoms of CV19 (cough or fever), but I’m having daily headaches and nausea, have lost my sense of smell almost completely and most of my sense of taste. I’ve also had aches, chills and a bit of a mental fog for some of the last week.
I’m working from home and the kids are home schooling, so I’m certainly not bored, as most of our staff have been furloughed and those of us left are having to do the others’ work as well as our own. We’ve all had a 15% pay cut, so we are virtually on the same money as the furloughed staff, ironically...
Before all this kicked off, I was already struggling with my mental health and had completed a phone assessment with regards to beginning a course of CBT later this month. I’d kind of got on top of things a little before this whole thing blew up. For that I’m thankful.
I’m scared to death the company I work for will fold and I’ll lose my job. It’s only me on my own, bringing in a wage, bringing up two kids and paying all the bills. I would lose my house if I can’t afford to keep paying my mortgage. I’m trying not to think about it too much, or I’ll be back where I started with my mental health again.
Ive felt too under the weather to do much with my limited spare time, but today I managed a little decorating in the living room. Tomorrow I’m going to plant what I hope are my autumn crops. I’d normally cook up some meals and soups for the week ahead, but the thought of that turns my stomach.
My boyfriend of two years is a paraplegic. We have a distance relationship, so this means we probably won’t see each other for months, rather than the usual fortnight. I’m fairly calm and resigned to this. I have more pressing problems that are overriding the personal relationship ones right now. He has a different set of things to worry about to me. Our lives are very different and this situation is just highlighting that.
Hopefully things will return to normal soon and all this will feel like a bad dream. I hope you are all well, safe and worry-free. So many unknowns for us all right now.

OMG Inkdevil! Those do sound like the COVID symptoms. Please do be careful, and take it easy. I really hope it stays mild for you. This is such a scary time for everyone but your situation does sound challenging. FYI if you can't get to the CBT therapist this month, there are free online CBT tools you can start using right now. It's better than nothing. There's the Woebot app, also Moodgym: moodgym.com.au/There are others too if you search. Hang in there and please do keep us updated! Hoping you recover soon.

Thank you devogirl. I am not nauseous today and for the first time in a well woke up without a headache. Spent the entire day in the garden, so I’m hoping that will tick a big box on the mental health side of things too. Still no sense of smell yet though... :-( I’m lucky I have a reasonable sized outside space to spend time in. Those without gardens must really be suffering during this lockdown.

Inkdevil, please rest. I’m glad you seem to have mild symptoms and hope you are on the mend but don’t overdo. Just kids, job seem like a lot when you are sick.

Inkdevil I'm really glad to hear you're feeling better. But like bluesky said, do take it easy. It can take weeks to recover and some people get a bit better then have symptoms recur so it's important to rest. I really recommend Woebot to anyone who's feeling anxious right now. It's a chatbot in a free app for any smartphone. The answers are fairly repetitive but that's what CBT is all about. It has you write down your thoughts then see the negative patterns and rewrite in a more positive way. It's been updated with responses on the current pandemic and how to deal with anxiety.

Undercurrent, I know what you mean about not having time to yourself with homeschooling. My kids have online studies with their schools and I literally have to sit with my youngest for the whole day, plus cooking, plus chores and laundry and then on top of that activities to keep them busy. I don’t have any free time, or boredom. I can’t even imagine having to work on top of that. So I get why you feel overwhelmed. Gardening sounds so nice. We do not have a yard and right now I miss it so much!!! If you ever need to let off some steam feel free to message me.

This is my fourth week at home. The first two weeks I still worked, so that kept me busy. Now the second week without work is over and it seems I won't work before April 27th. I'm still keeping myself busy. Trying to stay active - the weather has been great, so that's at least a good thing. I once in a while meet up with one of my friends and we go for a walk or enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace. Always keeping the distance. Two colleagues from work and I started to once in a while meet up to play some online poker or skat. I cleaned my windows and the kitchen drawers. Bathroom is ready to be cleaned again. I don't want to complain, because I'm in that nice position where I can just stay at home and "ignore" what's going on globally most of the day. Once a day, I check the news, figure out that it's still the same shit going on outside of my bunker. So yes, I know that I am in that nice comfortable situation, and should just be thankful. but still. I start to really look forward to have some things back to normal. Simple things like going to the mall, the movies, meet more than one friend at a time, go to places to have a dinner at the restaurant. Travel. Hope all of you are fine. Take care!

How are you doing Inkdevil? I agree with DG your symptoms sound like COVID. I have a friend in NYC who is a physician and 2 weeks ago she posted how she was manning a call-in telehealth desk and EVERYONE was calling in reporting a loss of taste and smell. At the time she said that was COVID and if anyone you knew had those symptoms to treat it like COVID, stay home and stay away from people. I just don't think we know enough about this thing to summarize anything but ultimately it seems like there are a variety or presentations. Some people who get it so bad that they end up in a hospital and others who are just sicker than normal or have weird symptoms. myrrh I'm of the opinion that you had it as well. How are you doing now?

Thanks for asking after me everyone. I think I’ve crested the hill now and I’m starting to feel more myself. I have only got a tiny amount of my sense of smell back though and looking back through my food diary (I’m trying to control my binge eating, not just writing about how I spent the day lovingly admiring the contents of my fridge...although I did) I realise it’s been over a fortnight since my tastebuds and nosebuds have been functioning right. I’ve thankfully escaped the cough and the fever and just been out once a week for a brief shopping trip for basics. What an ordeal that has been. Staying in constantly and dealing with the cabin fever mental health effects is infinitely better than dealing with food shopping during lockdown. I came back so depressed that I wanted to weep. Instead I ate chocolate and drank beer. And then wept. Internally. Thanks for the mental health links devogirl. I might actually get a chance to check them out now I have four days off. I feel ok most of the time at the minute. If I start getting symptoms I’m going downhill again - jaw clenching and the goddamn earworms (I love that word so much), I head straight for the CBT first aid. Deep breathing, distraction, exercise. It’s still early days isn’t it? Let’s hope we all get through this with a greater respect for the fragility of human life and society. Hope you are feeling better too now myrrh?

I'm doing fine, thanks for checking in Inkdevil and Emma! Fever finally abated after like 18 days or so, and I never really felt too poorly besides that. Kinda generally unwell, and a pronounced cough, but nothing terrible. Since I work from home, not a whole lot has radically changed in my world. I've actually been incredibly busy, so that's helping the time fly by. My best friend lives in another city, so we're used to mainly keeping in touch by phone. He's high strung under the best of circumstances, so he's been having a really rough go of it so we've been video chatting a ton. Sorry to hear things have been rough, Inkdevil. Wishing you all the best! <3

About getting sick, my son was super sick right before all this started. I have never kept him home that long, he didn't go to school for a week and with the weekend and days before and after, he was probably sick about 10 days. He still had soccer then but when he went, he couldn't run for one minute so he sat on the sideline.
With that being said, I am one that gets annoyed when people say "I have the flu" but it's really just a bad cold. With a real flu, a person is out and laying in the horizontal for a while.
I'm thinking he had the flu because he was basically in his bed the whole time, didn't feel like anything. I am also one who doesn't run to the doctor right away so I told him to sleep, hydrate, and fever is good because it means your body is fighting this. I helped him with some Tylenol but that was it. Water by the bedside, cold rags, Tylenol a little bit and sleeping. I believe in the natural ability for the body to fight illness. He basically didn't eat anything for a few days, he was very sick. I wonder now if it could have been Covid. He recovered fully without any medical intervention or hospital visit. I am curious about a test to see if he had it and if he has anti bodies now.
And btw, shortly after my son, my husband came home from work one evening, shivering, chills, fever, feeling like s... He then was also sick for about two weeks, then all of this had started. Was it Covid? I don't know. Again, I guess it would be interesting to see if he developed anti bodies.
Coworker also had a "cold" and was panicking if it was Covid but test came back negative. So with that, keep in mind that right now is also the season for the regular flu and on top of it now is allergy season. Not every cough or cold/flu like symptom is Covid.

Most people understand that there are a lot of mundane reasons to have a fever, a cough, or other COVID-consistent symptoms. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be taking these things seriously and staying home, because these circumstances are extraordinary and warrant extra behavior modification.
