I guess this would be a question for the para and quad wheelers...how long and how often are your hospital stays? What are usually the issues? Almost three months in a hospital for a C7 quad is such a long time...I feel kind of bad for him... about a week for me. Either kidney stones, UTI, or some combination of both puts me in the hospital once or twice a year. But if I catch the stones before they get out of hand outpatient shock waves break them up in one day. 3 months is a really long time. I go crazy after a week. Disrupted sleep, bed baths, no fun

I actually have a match. We are just waiting to get these levels normal and I am good to go. It looks like the transplant will be the end of the month. Good luck with that, its a scary ordeal to go through.Do as you are told and I'm sure you will be back on your wheels in no time.

Dani, that's a good ballsy question...for many years I never had any hospital stays, except one wayyy back in early days with pneumonia - almost killed me! But then after that very healthy, but then after 20 years I started getting UTIs...my bladder never worked well, but then UTIs started making life tough. After a few years of getting sick every few months, but only one hospital stay for 4-5 days, I found a way to empty bladder without cathing. Now I'm healthy as hell. never had stones, thank the gods!

Interesting Pony, which brings me to another question I guess...how do you empty your bladder without cathing?

Well, it's the craziest thing...i was getting desperate, as the UTIs were really hard to take. I have a ceiling lift over my bed, and it never downed on me that with some work while hanging in the air I could hit myself in bladder, then hold my breath, push hard...then hit again! I do this over n over...getting small amounts out, but eventually with about 15 mins work I get enough out. It's a real workout, as I'm worn out after...i do it before getting up in morning, and before getting in bed. Sounds nuts, but it's only thing that ever worked. My bladder does NOT release at all during day...

That sounds like the old-fashioned way of emptying the bladder - hitting it to get fluid out. As far as I know this method is not used much any more (at least not in my country) and I am not sure how healthy it is.
But you do use a leg-bag I assume? And as for only going twice a day - are you getting enough to drink?
I would say that at least going four times a day would be average ...

I do wear a condom cath, but never go in it. well, the tap-bladder method is old, but it never really worked for me during the day. I used to be at work incredibly uncomfortable, trying to make myself go, but really never emptying it. Urologist sent me to have test done, and he said man, you can't pee...you'll have to get a 'super-pube cath.' I left discouraged, not wanting to try that...that's when I came up with this crazy way. old, or not, I haven't had one UTI since doing it. No, I don't drink much during day...don't want my bladder extending!! It's just one unconventional thing I've developed over the years...

On the hospital Q, I have never been to the hospital due to my disability, and probably never will until I die. I hate that my condition is progressive, but at least it means that I can reliably work and live my life without sudden hospital issues.

So u hang in the air and punch yourself in the bladder? Nope that doesn't make sense either.. hahaha I'm sorry I am not at all familiar with this
