I guess this would be a question for the para and quad wheelers...how long and how often are your hospital stays? What are usually the issues? Almost three months in a hospital for a C7 quad is such a long time...I feel kind of bad for him... im a c5-c7 para and im like once a year o year and a half i stay like a week, usually because of urinary infecions and is SOOO boring 3 months most be horrible

Has there been a change of convention for naming sci's that I don't know about. No one sent me a telegram!
In the good old days, if you had a cervical sci, you invariably had 4 limbs affected and we're classified a quadriplegic or tetraplegic. A thorasic or lumbar injury meant you are a para or paraplegic.
Now 2 guys have just said they are c5 and C4 paras WTF is going on? Do I need a new paradigm?

Maybe there's been a breakthrough in medical science

But usually when I'm home I drink a lot of water in the afternoons to keep my bladder clean.... but then I end up rushing off to the bathroom every half hour or so. It is extremely annoying that I can't hold more than that. I had an operation about 10 years ago to try to improve my bladder, but it hasn't done all that much. Next time I go to see my Urologist I'm going to ask him about Botox injections. I don't know if that's something that would work for me or even if they have it in Jamaica, but I see them advertising it now for people with bladder issues, so we'll see.

I think the problem is that guys who can use their arms and hands (I'm C6/C7) don't necessarily like to refer to ourselves as quads, because we know that there are lots of guys out there who are full quads who can't do all the things that we can do and it doesn't seem necessarily fair to them if we call ourselves quads as well. I personally try to say high functioning quad or just avoid saying the term altogether. I'm not para, so I wouldn't say that. Most people I'm around don't even know the difference, so I just say I'm paralyzed from the chest down. If they need further information then I can drop the C6/C7 on them.

I've heard of that, but I don't fancy going under the knife. I've had enough operations to last me a lifetime. I sometimes have to go every half hour, and it's also after had a bit too much to drink.

Yeah, the operation really didn't do all that much, so I don't know if it's worth it. But they seriously have to do something about the situation though. They want me to drink lots of water, but every half hour is extremely annoying and inconvenient, even if it's just for a certain period every day.

An idea could be to drink through out the day, rather than binge drinking in the evening.

Actually, I find that even more annoying, as I then have to catheterize more times for the day and at more inconvenient times like when i'm lying down in bed or if I'm going out on the road. If I'm not busy or going out, I just drink my water in the afternoon while I'm working at my computer and get it over with, then I can relax for the rest of the day.

I'm a bit lucky, where I work, the toilets a close by. Also the bladder tablets I take give me dry mouth, so I have to drink water.
