Not to break up the Twitter style flow of things here, but I've been curious about adaptive sports, especially aquatic ones. I haven't been in a body of water since diving into a pool and breaking my neck in 1987. As a c5, what would I be able to do in and adaptive Aquatics type program? I don’t know; why don’t you ask? Even just floating around (using pool noodles, collars, etc.) can be freeing and help loosen up tight areas/build strength with gentle resistance. People can help you figure out the best means of assistance, and you may even be able to do some swimming using pullbuoys or similar. So give a program a call. Even if you contact one not in your area, they should be connected with national orgs or knowledgeable individuals who can help you find stuff. Thank you for the encouragement! I didn't notice this message when it first came in.

My local university has a wonderful adaptive sports program… lots of stuff in a gym and pool, with student helpers, but lots of stuff outside like sailing, cross-country skiing, etc. Participants had all sorts of different disabilities, goals, prognoses…
One of the frequent participants was a guy a little younger than me, son of a friend’s professor, who had been injured at a fairly high level and now drove a chair with his chin. I was stupid and asked what someone with so little sensation would get out of exercising the parts he couldn’t move or feel. “If you were sitting in the same position all day, wouldn’t you feel kind of cramped up?” said the instructor. It was a big reminder that bodies still gonna body whether people can feel them or not. And I know the guy felt a lot of relief from that.
So… not every place will have such a strong leader who keeps it going, but it was a great opportunity to connect with people who want to meet you where YOU are instead of just trying to meet some sort of standard.

I played power soccer a decade ago. It's basically bumper cars in wheelchairs. They put a metal guard where the legrests go, you have an oversized inflated volleyball, and you play on a basketball court in a 4 on 4 format. My two year team made nationals once in Indianapolis in 2010. We did absolutely terrible on the National scene 😂. The memories will stay forever though. We road-tripped from Georgia to Indiana with 5 wheelchairs in one large van and 3 Able bodied friends along for the journey. Imagine the policeman's face when he pulled that van over for speeding! 😂
The team below, the Screaming Eagles, were out "rivals" out of North Georgia. (We were from West Georgia)

Signed up as a volunteer for an adaptive sporting event next week. My motives were definitely 90% desire to see hot PWDs in swim suits, 10% altruism. Looking forward to it but I'm also kind of feeling like a creeper. Not to break up the Twitter style flow of things here, but I've been curious about adaptive sports, especially aquatic ones. I haven't been in a body of water since diving into a pool and breaking my neck in 1987. As a c5, what would I be able to do in and adaptive Aquatics type program? It depends on how a-quad-ically inclined you are. Eh?

If I had a panic attack, I would feel like a real dic-quad. .

Are any of you pwds and devs teachers, educators, professors, etc.? I just wanted to wish y'all a Happy Teacher Appreciation Week.
I tweeted this to commemorate the occasion: "Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!! If it wasn't for the advice and encouragement of the many wonderful teachers in my life, including my mom, I don't think I'd have become the educator that I am today, even if being physically challenged."

A few days ago I told a group of guys (some wheelers, some not) where I was looking for my relationship: a) ...in the devotee world b) ...in the non devy AB world and C) ... among other PWDs. "That was really open minded" one of the guys replied "No" I said "I think it had been just an act of selfishness in my case". The crowd stared at me now and there was this little moment of silence, you know the one you can´t buy for money. I would say I´ve reached their minds in this second and that had made my day!

I saw a hilarious meme on Twitter a few days ago, and it said the following:
"Someone told me I need to stop using F-bombs... what the fuck is an F-bomb?" 😂😂

I’m wondering how many advertisers will walk away (my field of work), advertisers in general don’t like being part of something controversial and after Musk took over a lot of them already walked away.
He doesn’t seem to be eager to increase profitability, he just uses twitter as his own vanity project.

I hear the Northwest has a descent adaptive sports scene and some places around Boston do.. also up around ski country in NE. BUT THEY ALL PALE in comparison to the Adaptive Sports scene in Colorado. We even have a dive school that has a lift (for their different floors) and a lift in and out of their dive pool CO is second TO NONE for adaptive sports.
