~Z28gal~: haha, I know! also, hopefully not have 'relations' like lady catherine. besides it would be worse for us, because in all likelyhood we would end up living in a tiny apartment with mr. collins! no gardens or study rooms to offer any respite! <shudder> Or friends like Miss Bingley! I think I'd end up a bitter old maid if I was born in the 19th century.

(Although I prefer the term "spinster"... just because. lol) I've been discussing it with friends lately and it's not as bad as you might think, really. ;D Honestly, I'm not often bitter and I expect it to pass soon... the waiting isn't fun tho.

You've always seemed pretty upbeat to me!! If I end up a "spinster", I'll spend all my money on cars and horses, and go out Thelma and Louise style in a 1969 Boss 302 'Stang in bright yellow. ;D I think I can be happy either way. My sister and I have decided that if one of us ends up married with kids and the other doesn't, the unmarried one is going to be called "Auntie Christ" and will devote her life to corrupting her nieces and nephews.

Having never seen any rendition of Pride & Prejudice, are you talking in euphemisms? They're referencing characters from Pride and Prejudice, yes. It's a good story and worth watching a movie version or reading!

As a woman who's about the same age as SNG and still very single. I'm really, really, really glad that I live in a time (and place?) when... it might not be as comfortable... but a woman can just about "have it all*" without a mate. A career, home and even a family, if she's so inclined. amen, sister.

I know it's a novel, but as there has been what, 3 or 4 film versions, I presumed that's what most were familiar with. Anyhow, I didn't know if the bit about gardening was literally about gardening or had an underlying meaning.

Thanks, I am mostly upbeat (I hope). And pretty happy with my life usually... there are only a few goals that I haven't reached. Some I'm still working on. Life is good... I'm just having a moment that's lasting a little longer than a moment. Which I don't like. I've got a short attention span. ;D I love "Auntie Christ" we call my bff's grandmother the Anti-christ.. because she is. And corrupting nieces and nephews is a worthy hobby. I think that's one area where I've done a fab job. heh Don't to the Thelma and Louise thing... living well is the best revenge.

I've been one of those people who is never without a relationship and friends have told me that I have to stop and take a breather, but I just couldn't before. Finally after my last break up I realized that I have no perspective because I jump into relationships so fast and that I need to take time off. I made a commitment not to get into an exclusive relationship in 2011. I'm teaching myself how to be content with myself and secure in my own life. It's interesting to realize the things I put off doing because I don't have a man. Like going out and doing things I like. I went to the movies last week by myself and I wondered why I've never done that before! I love movies and it's a pain trying to get my friends together for one. I haven't lived alone in so long, and some parts of it are great. Setting the thermostat to what I want. Reading a book all afternoon without anyone complaining that I'm not paying attention to him (except for the dog sometimes). Making last minute plans.

~Z28gal~: I think you're plan's awesome! I would hit on you crazy if you spend your money on cars and horses @ Ruth: Being really, truly single can be very resting and wonderful, as can be being in a good relationship. but being somewhere between singledom and an almost-relationship or a non-relationship is just rock bottom. its really crazy, and an energy guzzler. whats worse is when one is completely in love with the person and all the other safe, normal options just dont match up. its an all time low...
