I spent all summer bathing in bossa nova, and now the cold rain has started again. Time for some Batushka.
Discovering this one was a little confusing because this cover is a dead ringer for Adviatic Songs by Om, but of course both of them are just using Eastern Orthodox art so it doesn't mean much. But while Om is a series of loving meditations by perma-stoned Californian legend Al Cisneros, Litourgiya from Batushka is nasty Polish black metal written entirely in Old Slavonic. They perform in these great draping robes and veils, and the members have remained anonymous. Their live shows are so insane, they make Sunn O))) look like basic bitches. (I kid, I kid, my heart has belonged to Stephen O'Malley ever since we made eye contact at a show last fall.)

On a completely different note then myrrh 's post here's what I've been listening to lately. Oscar Peterson. One of the greatest jazz pianist of all time. This guy just loves to go off sometimes, reaching some state of musical ecstasy through playing as fast as he possibly can.

I'm really digging this fairly recent tune by this Danish band.

I just wrote out a whole thing about stoner doom, and then decided nobody wants to hear me yelling about more nasty riffs. That lead me down a rabbit hole that began with a video of Wednesday Addams dancing to She Past Away on some spooky October playlist and then suddenly I was watching pop videos from the 60's and wanting to watch Outlander.
Anyway. This is wonderful. The kid up front is really channeling another dimension.

And hopefully you past this as well:

Here's a metalcore track with a horror storyline, and a Pennywise the clown vibe to it. It's just in time for Halloween. 🎃👻💀

Just like I have one solitary Grimes song that I will always bump, there's one navel-gazey indie romance song that I'll always turn to around this time of year. It makes me think of about ten years ago when I first moved to this state, I took the first job I could find and ended up spending a lot of time alone in a big warehouse with an old boombox tuned to the local alternative station. All the vocals sounded like this:
But somehow it was a necessary periodic reprieve from the 'heavy metal' station. There's really so much White Snake and Def Leppard that a body can take, physically, before the cells revolt.
Anyway this is my shameless indie romance song that I love and I will play on repeat while sipping hot tea and feeling feelings.

Man, I love the almost Egyptian mummy feel to this tune! It's hard to believe it's from 2002.

A new Blue October album is out. I like all of the songs on it but there’s one that sticks out, I guess it’s my favorite on this album.

As I lie here now in bed, it is November 5th in England, which means only one thing it’s bonfire night. Yes we have a tradition, when Guy Fawkes tried to burn down Parliament, (November 5th 1605) we make a guy and put him on a bonfire. I live in a country lane, somebody in one of the neighbouring gardens he’s setting off fireworks. One of them nearly blew the wax out my ears. I am listening to rockets flying high, believe me it’s louder than music.

So glad the shit show is at least a little bit over. This truly been the longest election ever. On another note, is anyone feeling Billie Eilish today at all?
