Tonight I used the broiler and cooked up some carne asada ... ( simply made.by using skirt steak or whatever steak cut you like and a packet of taco seasoning used as a marinade.) sliced it up and thru it on some flour tortillas with lettuce, tomato and some cheddar cheese and had happy steak tacos. Easy dinner for you to make. Bon Appetite

I just got a pizza out of the oven that is cooling off right now. my topping is creme fraiche (similar to sour cream), white asparagus, pecan nuts and a little bit honey. Sounds like an interesting combination, I know, but it tastes just wonderful.

It’s nice someone keeps this interesting thread alive, feelsunshine! You seem to be an innovative cook! We had homemade hamburger tonight. It was actually the first time for us, since I always try to avoid everything fastfoodish. But I‘m glad we gave it a try, it was fun and yummy. But dirty. So now it’s cleaning time...

Chili tonight. Though I live in Hawaii; it's cold and rainy today. Sounded good. Cheese on top. Forgot to take a pic.

I had some friends over yesterday for cinco de mayo and we had a make your own nacho bar. On mine I had fajita steak, black beans, jalapeno, red onion, tomato and of course the chips and cheese (I like queso quesadilla best). Once the cheese is melted I added sour cream, guacamole, cilantro and taco sauce. Of course there were margaritas to go with the nachos.

What I'm dancing around saying is that I sliced some too thin and lit the eggplant on fire. This makes me feel better. This thread was starting to make me feel bad about my own laziness and incompetence in regards to cooking. Anything beyond the absolute basics seems like magic to me. Hopefully you used this opportunity to say Baba Ganoush in various weird voices throughout the evening.

Baba ganoush! Roasted eggplant, tahini, garlic, smoked paprika, and salt... magic. Man, i love this stuff. I'm too lazy/cheap to bother with proper roasting on a grill, so I just slice the eggplant up and broil it. Typically I'm very attentive to slicing things evenly, but tonight I've been enjoying some wine that was left at my house recently after hosting a gathering, and eeeehhh.... the sloppiness is real. What I'm dancing around saying is that I sliced some too thin and lit the eggplant on fire. The idea of some horrified Levantine grandmother clutching her pearls at broiled, on-fire eggplant got me through the thermal event in good humor. Whatevs, it came out fine. So, u can be even lazier. The traditional way my family makes it is to take a whole eggplant, wrap it in foil, stab it a million times with a fork and bake it until soft. Then when it's ready you just scoop out the eggplant. Then mix your ingredients in. Simple. (My family uses a ton of fresh onion as well as lots of lemon) There is another even lazier way to make it, but I wont bore you.

You just described my weekend!! Except wine instead of beer and lake view instead of ocean. I was up near Osoyoos this weekend! No burn ban yet, so camp fires all weekend! 😎

A couple of days ago I was trimming the bamboo in my yard, and noticed a fat squirrel was eating some of the new shoots. It looked super tasty, so I brought some inside and fried it up in some garlic. So good! I've never had fresh bamboo before, only canned. It tasted so much more complex than I expected. Had it with tempeh and home made spicy pickled carrots over some rice, and it was soooo good. Now I'm considering getting a big planter for some bamboo that's actually bred for eating, because the decorative stuff in the yard had very little edible material on it. Not really safe to eat, shoots are pretty much toxic even if you boil them. Their may be a few edible types but I still wouldn't try them.
